The long-awaited biopic of slain rapper Tupac Shakur has set a shooting date after three years of delays.

The film, from producers/financiers Morgan Creek and Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films, is scheduled to begin principal photography in the Spring of 2014. The two companies made the shooting date official last Thursday during a reception for friends and supporters of the late Tupac at the Zanzibar in Santa Monica last Thursday.

The Tupac film was originally scheduled to begin filming in 2011, but a protracted legal battle between Morgan Creek and the late rapper's mother, Afeni Shakur, caused delays. Morgan Creek had sued Shakur over her continued attempts to negotiate creative control of the film despite signing over rights to her son's music and story. Shakur countersued, claiming that no such deal was in place with Morgan Creek. However, the matter was settled out of court, and Shakur is now an executive producer on the long-gestating biopic.

So now begins the process of finding a director to helm the project, a writer to script it, and an actor to play the iconic rapper. Who would you pick for the role of Tupac Shakur? Sound off in the comments!
