'True Detective' Finale Crashes HBO Go

As a monument to the fanatical popularity of True Detective, which ended its first season Sunday night, HBO Go crashed.
Apparently, so many people logged on to HBO Go to watch the season finale that the streaming service crashed.
Due to overwhelmingly popular demand for #TrueDetective, we've been made aware of an issue affecting some users. Please try again soon.— HBO GO (@HBOGO) March 10, 2014
Some viewers who logged in saw a "fatal error" message, which is just about the only thing fans didn't want to see on Sunday night. However, HBO appears to have sorted out the issue, from all appearances, as the site loads without any problems. Granted, you need an HBO subscription to be able to use the service, so not everyone is going to be able to test it out for themselves. Although HBO has apparently been considering offering HBO Go a la carte, without a cable subscription.
Hopefully, this will allow more people to watch True Detective next season. You know, assuming it actually gets renewed. But it would be stunning, and virtually inconceivable, that the show would get canceled. So I'd wager the farm on viewers getting more True Detective in the future.
But it'll be without Matthew McConaughey, who says he won't be back for a second season. And even if he'd wanted to return, creator Nic Pizzolatto likely wouldn't let him: the show was pitched as an anthology series, with entirely new characters, actors, stories and settings each season. Here's hoping they keep the theme song.
