True Blood - Recap: One Goodbye, One Good Riddance
True Blood continued to suck its way through Season 6 last night with an episode that featured the death of both a much beloved friend and well-loathed villain. True Blood sure isn’t shy about featuring a solid beheading!
(Side Note: Thanks to Noelle for covering this episode for me last night! I hope I can add some more insight!)
Spoiler Alert! A possessed Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) was thwarted in his attempt to drown Sookie Stackhouse. Not really much of a spoiler, huh? As Sookie flailed, desperate for air, Bill’s sixth sense alerted him to the situation, prompting him to release sun-walker Warlow from his cell. After Warlow had faery-blasted Sookie’s father out of Lafayette, Stackhouse banished his spirit from her life once and for all. Before even having a moment to catch her breath, Sookie recognized the signs of Bill’s beckoning of Warlow. In an attempt to protect him and return the favor, Sookie zapped herself and the hybrid to the faery realm where the two would spend the rest of Episode 6 connecting.

Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) manage to easily convince the racist folks running the government concentration camp for vampires that he was, indeed, a true hater. Of course, Jason’s decision to join their ranks is entirely fueled by his heroic desire to rescue Jessica from the clutches of Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp). The two were destined to butt heads immediately, as Sarah recognized Jason’s treasonous motives from the get-go, and Jason was happy to hold the fact that the two knew each other very intimately over Sarah’s head. In an attempt to twist the knife, Sarah scheduled one of those entirely invasive vampire sex-ed sessions… featuring Jessica. Jason was forced to watch helplessly as Jessica and a male vampire, James, contemplated entertaining the twisted humans behind the glass. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that we’ll be seeing more of James based solely on the noble way he protected Jessica. The two, in the end, were sent back to their quarters without having to do the nasty for an audience, but Sarah’s flexing of power certainly reminded Jason of the fact that the vampires are not the lions in this den.
Desperate for answers, Vampire Bill enlisted the forced help of his doctor captive to manipulate an encounter with Lilith. After having most of his blood removed, Bill slipped into a comatose state, effectively conjuring Lilith. In all honesty, Bill got nothing from this conversation but a sassy lashing from the original vampire. Seriously, doesn't Lilith seem like the kind of dame who makes her presence known when she has something to contribute? It is, in truth, Bill’s responsibility to stop the War on Vampires, and he’s been spending way too much time thinking and not enough time acting. Jessica, needless to say, is imprisoned, and as her maker, Bill was responsible to act.

Inside of the facility, Eric and Pam (Kristen Bauer van Straten) would finish their faceoff by effectively killing the guard on hand in one swift motion of bloody greatness. Through a crack in the glass, Eric spotted Steve Newlin (Michael McMillian), promising us an awesome future encounter. Perhaps more importantly, a subsequently caged and chained Eric would finally break. Having watched Burrell drag in Nora (Lucy Griffiths), who’d also been strapped down, Eric would become privy to a new form of vampire torture. Hepatitis V is a killer virus, and Nora would act as a personal test subject. The two screamed and struggled, but their futile attempt at convincing Burrell (Arliss Howard) to refrain from poisoning Nora fell on deaf ears.
Not one to give up, Eric concocted a plan in which he enlisted the help of his new progeny, Willa Burrell (Amelia Rose Blair), who’d requested to join the general public rather than sit bored in solitary confinement. Her game of Connect Four with Tara (Rutina Wesley) was cut short, as the two would need to quickly form a scheme to out-maneuver the guard. As it turns out, it’s not so difficult to whip those pesky glamour-proof contacts from their eyes after all! In no time, Willa would free Eric and Nora, whose health was rapidly deteriorating. In their quest to flee the camp in disguise, Eric managed to uncover the truth behind Burrell’s new Tru-Blood factory… The entire batch is laced with Hepatitis V.

Bill, realizing how time had slipped from his fingers, drank the last of Warlow’s preserved blood and stepped into the sun. By the time Compton reached the courtyard of Burrell’s offices, Billith was in full force, strutting through a barrage of bullets with total cocky swagger. The guards were effortlessly controlled and killed. Burrell, still whining about his daughter’s transformation, found himself short a head. True Blood loves a fantastic beheading, and Bill is becoming a bit of a connoisseur! R.I.P Governor Burrell. I’m just glad your daughter got to throw in that “pu**y whipped” dig first!
In a season full of vampire racists, I have to give the award for “the worst” to Alcide (Joe Manganiello). The wolves on this show are just too much for me. I’d like to see this pack storyline written out sometime soon, especially now that Sam (Sam Trammell) has made peace with Martha (Dale Dickey) following some sage advice form Nicole (Jurnee Smollett-Bell). In truth, little Emma could use what family she has left, and Martha agreed to keep her safe and away from the vulgar pack. I’ve always sort of enjoyed Martha, so I’m glad they worked this out. Of course, Alcide and his father managed to sniff out Sam and Nicole just after the hand-off. I’m not sure why, but Alcide is seriously unwilling to bury the hatchet with Sam. The two were once friends, but Sam now finds himself banned from the area entirely. I know many viewers love Joe Manganiello, but I’m starting to think Alcide needs an extended break.

As Warlow explained, the bond between himself and Sookie could free him from the pain of his dark side. If she were to become his admittedly bizarre “faery vampire queen,” he’d lose the need to feed and kill innocents, and the two could spend eternity together. Though they were safe from Bill in the faery realm, Warlow felt the looming sunset, prompting him to have Sookie secure him to a tombstone for her own safety. He’d been with Sookie at night before, but only after he’d fed. Episode 6 found Warlow hungry. Of course, Sookie Stackhouse decided to embrace her label as Bon Temps’ very own “danger whore,” admitting her feelings and inevitably allowing Warlow to feed on her before taking some of his own blood for herself. The two subsequently shared what seemed like an out of this world sexual experience. Who knew Sookie was into bondage? I thought Anna Paquin did a great job of sexing up that scene.

Perhaps the most heartfelt moment of Season 6 thus far occurred during Episode 6. I was certain Terry’s (Todd Lowe) plan to have himself assassinated would be thwarted, as it seemed way to ridiculous, but once Arlene (Carrie Preston) started to get involved, I realized there was only one way things could work out. Following a touching “goodbye” with Lafayette, Terry returned home to continue getting his affairs in order. This, needless to say, alerted Lafayette to something dark brewing, and he immediately called Arlene to tip her off. Desperate, Arlene turned to Holly (Lauren Bowles) for advice in preventing what seemed like an obvious impending suicide attempt. Holly cleverly drummed a plan in which a vampire friend would pay back a favor… by glamouring Terry’s pain away. The trick seemed to work, and Bellefleur would spend his last hours on earth as a completely happy man. While taking out the trash at Merlotte’s the next afternoon, Terry was unceremoniously shot in the throat, giving Arlene just a few moments to bid the love of her life adieu. R.I.P. Terry. Now, I find myself wondering why they simply couldn't let these two ride off into the blood red sunset. We invested so much time in Terry's own personal supernatural story arc last season, only to witness this?

What did you think of True Blood Season 6 Episode 6, “Don’t You Feel Me”? Will you miss Terry, or was it time for him to go? Where does this leave Arlene? Did you like Andy Bellefleur’s chosen name for his daughter? (I believe it was Adalynn Braylin Charlene Danica.) Is Sarah stepping up now that Burrell is no more? Do you like Sookie with Warlow? Do you think she’ll take the plunge into vampiredom?
