Travis Wall and Nick Lazzarini - All The Right Moves - Interview
Travis Wall and Nick Lazzarini of So You Think You Can Dance have a new reality show! All the Right Moves premieres on Oxygen tonight at 9 PM ET (right before The Glee Project). The show follows Travis and Nick as they launch the Shaping Sound dance company with Teddy Forance and Kyle Robinson.
To promote the show, Oxygen organized a dance workshop for the press at the Broadway Dance Center in New York. It was so much fun! After the workshop I got to chat with Nick and Travis.
I met Nick Lazzarini a few years ago at a thank you party for Danny Tidwell at the end of SYTYCD Season 3. It was nice to see him again. I can't believe it's been seven years since Nick won SYTYCD, so I was very glad he remembered me.
He said that their new show covers the everyday drama of starting a dance company with your friends. All four of them live (and work) together so expect a few "ego battles" throughout the season.
Travis Wall meanwhile, I've never met in real life, so I was specially excited to see him finally.
I congratulated him on his 2012 Emmy nomination, which he told me was a bit "controversial" because it was for Dancing with the Stars and not So You Think You Can Dance, a show which he has been attached to for years. The producers of SYTYCD did call to congratulate him and are proud of what he has done even outside the show.
Travis said that he is grateful for all the opportunities that SYTYCD has given him -- including the exposure that helped him start Shaping Sound dance company (and this new reality show that documented it).
In fact, the company's first TV performance was the Dancing with the Stars appearance, so the Emmy nomination was extra special.
The producers of All The Right Moves initially contacted Travis for a solo reality show -- but he insisted that the show be about him, his friends and their dance company.
"I shared everything," Travis said. "Story of my life."
I for one am glad he did!
The premiere episode of All The Right Moves is already online at Oxygen. Here's the video and recap.
