Touch – Season 1 Episode 12, Part 2 – Gyre – Recap

Here is an interesting fact. There are 31,530,000 seconds in a year. Wow. According to Jake, people want to live in a world of stasis. Time, however, forces us to grow and adapt.

Part 2:

In the second half of this two-hour season finale, we learn the next four digits of the Amelia Sequence, 4 3 7 0. Interesting thought: Will the Amelia Sequence be longer than that of Pi? Let me know your opinion in the comments section below this blog.

It definitely sucks that the facility has full custody of Jake (David Mazouz). How will Jake communicate now? Aside from Amelia, no one understands Jake better than his father, Martin (Kiefer Sutherland). Sheri (Roxana Brusso) reveals she has spoken to Martin and yet again, accuses Clea (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) of having a “strange” relationship with him. Clea defends herself, “I did what’s best for Jake!” Yeah yeah yeah. Clea, get a grip, why don’t ya? You know you feel a little somethin’ somethin’ for Martin, but I am willing to bet his feelings are not reciprocated as of right now. I’m assuming in the future, the writers will make Clea and Martin a couple because that is just how TV works nowadays. I have been watching way too much television lately. :)

Martin reveals to Abigail (Catherine Dent) that Jake and a bunch of other children are being transferred over to a long-term care facility. Abigail wants to inform the lawyers tomorrow, but Martin is not willing to wait another twenty-four hours to take care of this situation. Martin ends up purchasing a gun for $300. Oh no! Martin is going to extreme heights to regain custody of Jake. Fortunately, he forgot to put the bullets in his pocket when he left the shop.

Jake is taking a picture of the crystal object, which appeared in the first hour of the two-hour season finale. Oh my gosh, did I just see product placement on the phone? AT&T Graffiti makes an appearance. I am so getting remnants of The Biggest Loser right now because BL is ranked #1 in terms of product placement. The timing of this particular product placement is so off as Clea is having a sincere moment with Jake. Is Jake the most adorable kid or what? He grabs a bowl of popcorn and throws only the popcorn inside his backpack! Jake is funny.
Martin is now inside the facility, and spots the guy that clubbed him in the first hour. Martin takes out his gun!!! Go Martin, Go Martin! A Rush of Adrenaline. Darn it, Sheri! Why did you have to interrupt my moment (I am really into action movies, FYI. That is why I find this particular scene intriguing!). Sheri ruins everything. Her character is so blegh.

Randall (the fireman) from the first episode, who tried to carry Sarah (Martin’s late wife) out of the Twin Towers in New York, has made another appearance! He sets a dinner date with Gwen (Melissa Ponzio). Can anybody tell me the Randall’s name in real life?

Back in the facility, Sheri allows Martin to have a supervised visit with Jake. Martin gives Clea the side-eye. Oh no! Some other boy is pretending to be Jake. Jake is missing! Where can he be? Clea put Jake in a taxi cab and instructed him to go back to his father’s apartment. Yay, she is back on Martin’s good side now!

Martin rushes to his apartment, but Jake is not there. Jake was in the apartment earlier, only to leave his phone on the table. Martin finds the four-digit number, 4 3 7 0, in Jake’s phone. Later in the episode, the Invisible Prince (from an earlier episode) makes an appearance! He says to Jake, “You can see the numbers, too?”

Lucy (Maria Bello) makes a pit stop at the gas station to wash her car windows. She is driving across the world, following the currents of the North Pacific Gyre, to find her missing daughter, Amelia. She meets a man at the gas station who shows her one of his videos. It has already received 318 hits. 3 1 8 is the first three digits of the Amelia Sequence! Lucy immediately recalls those numbers.

Jake is in the cemetery to visit his late mother’s grave. Martin finds him there, and tells Jake that he saw the four-digit number on the phone. 4 3 7 0 is Sarah’s birthday; she was born on April 3rd, 1970. We later find out that Aster Corporation just put out an amber alert for child abduction. That is just too extreme. Abducting his own son? No way!

In the child care facility, Clea finally confronts Sheri!!! Clea is aware that Sheri works for Aster Corporation, is responsible for Arthur Teller’s death, and used to have Amelia locked away in Room 6. I am so glad to see Clea toughen up and stand her ground.

Martin shows up at Avram’s office (Arthur Teller’s former office) and unfortunately discovers that all of Arthur’s records about Amelia have disappeared. Meanwhile, Randall shows up at Gwen’s front door to tell her the date is off. He blew off the date because of he wants to search for Martin Bohm (the husband of the woman he tried to carry out of the Twin Towers on September 11th, 2001).

This is so exciting! Jake just found a map of the North Pacific Gyre in Avram’s office! That map is all that is left of the evidence. Avram takes Jake and Martin to a van that will take them to the bus station. Their tickets say that their destination is Minnesota, but the Amelia Sequence begs to differ. Their destination is supposed to be in Los Angeles, CA. Some guys from the Aster Corporation catch Martin and Jake at the bus station. Jake then runs into the street causing the driver to hit the brakes. Randall is the driver! Randall helps Martin and Jake escape from the bad guys. Then, Martin lets Randall know that he is Sarah’s husband. When Randall left Sarah in the burning building, it left a huge burden on him, so Martin tells him, “She would want you to let this go. Move on.” Randall is giving them his car so that they can drive to Los Angeles!!!

The final scene takes place at the Santa Monica Pier. Lucy walks by Martin and Jake! I am so happy right now that Lucy has finally crossed paths with Jake! Martin doesn’t tell Lucy yet that they share a friend in Arthur Teller. I guess we have to wait until Season 2 for that.

This series has been one of the most intriguing new shows I have seen in a long while; also, the producers have chosen a star cast. Kiefer Sutherland is such a brilliant actor. It has been so exciting to watch him play Lead Actor again! He’s the type of actor who leaves his viewers with the feeling of wanting more.
