Top 25 Posts and Search for 2010
So it turned out to be a dismal year for web traffic on Rickey.org. According to Clicky, traffic was down a staggering 19% from last year, with 6,573,000+ visitors in 2010 (so far).
Google Analytics however tells a different story: From January to May (American Idol season) the site was down 9% from 2009, but from June to December, the site was up 27%. For the year, up 7% with 8,042,662+ visitors so far.
In the middle of the road was SiteMeter, reporting 7,600,000+ visitors so far for the year, down 8% from last year.
Down 19%, up 7% and down 8% just seems like a big difference though -- for literally the same data. I couldn't see any issue with my Google installation in particular, so I guess these websites just measure traffic differently. Quantcast, which I use for reader demographics, even reports far lower monthly numbers.
I'll go conservative and take the Clicky numbers and say that indeed it has been dismal. LOL.
The most popular posts this year were non-American-Idol-related posts with unfortunately, sexual elements (crotch!). Just to show how weak the year was: two posts from 2009, two posts from 2008 and one post from 2007 made the Top 25. Last year, a handful of Adam Lambert posts reached 100,000+ views, but this year only 2 posts reached that number. Adam Lambert Mad World was viewed 362305 times in 2009.
Lower numbers aside, I'm actually happy with how the year has turned out. Looking at this list, I think we've definitely evened out our subject matter for the year and not just be Idol-heavy unlike previous years. To be one of the top sites visited for one of Miley Cyrus' many controversial moments this year is a bit of an achievement for me.
I'm really looking forward to 2011 because I think it's going to be awesome. We were able to finish off strong in 2010 even with a very weak American Idol season -- and it's just going to be better with X Factor in the Fall 2011. I'm so excited!
