The Tomorrow People - Episode 10 - Recap - The Citadel

The CW brings us another installment of teen superhero melodrama The Tomorrow People, continuing the longing looks and cool special effects, but without any of the high school scenes that we really want to see. Ah, well. I'm sure Astrid will come along later this season!

First thing first, we see what Stephen got up to in limbo before the winter break. He did meet with his dad in the ghosty mindplane, and Dad charges Stephen with finding a man named Simon Plame. Ultra is no help, though, because the file is guarded by a computer who won't let Stephen get to the files. It's... weird that Stephen is even still working for Ultra at all after all the mad suspicious stuff he got up to during the last few episodes. Homeboy straight up lied a buncha times and got found out by big bad Jedikiah. Anyway, Uncle Jedikiah claims to have killed Simon and creamted Stephen's dad. Huh. How... convenient.

There's a scene in a prison where a beardly man named Errol escapes. He's a Tomorrow Guy and uses a jailmates dismembered heand (ew) to trick the guards handcuffing him and get out. Stephen is sent in with the team to subdue Errol, and it seems that this man is supremely powerful. Errol selectively teleports a knockout dart without teleporting himself, and also blasts feedback into Stephen's mind. Easy escape, no hands removed this time.

The random background Tomorrow People in the sewer stage a coup after all of John's secrets came out last episode, and they vote to elect Cara as their new leader. Cara's first act is to plan a breakout at The Citadel (the prison from which Errol escaped), but to do that, she needs to find Errol. Stephen and Ultra are bringing him in when Stephen contacts Cara with mind powers and she has a team ambush the paddywagon. Stephen takes a bullet to sell the ambush (but... he can teleport... why would Jedikiah be suspicious if Stephen avoided being shot??) and passes out. Anyway, the Tomorrow People get the confused Errol back to the sewer to scan his mind for clues to the location of The Citadel.

The Tomorrow People find where they need to go and get a team together. A doped up Stephen can't help, though, so he just chills powerless in bed at Ultra. Once inside, Cara decides that everyone needs saving and totally ruins everybody's night with a big fight. The whole thing ends in a stand-off with Jedikiah, where she's got a young girl and he's got a gun. Cara tries using Jedikiah's secret girlfriend as leverage, but he's not biting. Errol 'ports between them, but that just gets him a bullet to the brain. John shows up just in the nick of time and buys the girls enough time to leave.

This episode was pretty much the same as the others. Very straightforward, but still a bunch of moments where the writers seemed to forget about the superpowers. I dunno! It's odd. I'd like to get some more inventive episode plots and a little more info about what's going on in the season-long plot. The best thing of the episode was about five minutes where we find out Stephen's mom is going on a date, and then after when the (extremely charming) guy has some weird effect on Stephen's brain powers. More home life strife please and thank you! Anyway, preview below!
