Tom Hiddleston to Meet King Kong In 'Skull Island'

Loki coming face-to-face with King Kong? Well, it's not that far-fetched now: Tom Hiddleston has signed on to star in Legendary's upcoming King Kong prequel/spinoff, Skull Island.

No word on what role Hiddleston will play, but the film will be set on the titular island, which is home to King Kong and a host of other crazy prehistoric creatures, indigenous tribes, and (if you believe Peter Jackson's 2005 remake) impossibly giant insects.

The Kings of Summer helmer Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct the blockbuster from a script written by Godzilla scribe Max Borenstein.

"Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions," said Legendary, in a statement. "Universal Pictures will distribute the film on Nov. 4, 2016."

Of course, the involvement of Borenstein is already fueling rumors of a King Kong/Godzilla crossover, as Legendary has a potential cinematic universe of creature features on its hands after the ridiculous amount of money Godzilla has made since May. But given how the usual story of King Kong tends to go, and given that they're from two entirely different eras, I'm not sure how it's even possible. Then again, we're talking about a hypothetical story in which an ancient dinosaur-type monster battles a gorilla the size of a building. So I'm sure they'd find a way to make a crossover work, if it came to that. As for now, I'm just interested in seeing Hiddleston in a King Kong movie.
