TLC Cancels 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo' Amid Sex Offender Scandal

TLC has decided it no longer wants to be in business with the Thompson clan: the network has canceled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo after four seasons.

The decision comes following the news that Mama June Thompson is dating convicted child molester Mark McDaniel, who served ten years in prison for forcing oral sex on an 8-year-old.

June denied she was seeing McDaniel, but TMZ posted a photo of the two at a party together in a hotel room. TLC didn't buy that June wasn't seeing McDaniel, so they decided to ax the show altogether to spare themselves the headache.

And TLC is taking a pretty big financial hit to stand by its principles: while Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is far from the ratings powerhouse it once was for the network, it's still an impressively profitable show. In addition, the network has already shot an entire new season, and have already spent the money to get those episodes finished. To toss those in the can is a pretty daunting move, but admirable, in a way. Not many networks would stand behind a matter of principle like this.

In fact, the network is going even further. Despite having canceled the show, TLC is still offering to pay for tutors and counselors for the Thompson kids: "Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority," the network said in a statement to TMZ. "TLC is faithfully committed to the children's ongoing comfort and well-being."

But what do you think? Is it an overreaction to have canceled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo? Or is it about time? Sound off in the comments!
