Preparation
Usher notes that TJ is pulling a gutsy move with John Mayer’s “Waiting On the World to Change,” since he’s more of a classic R&B vocalist. This is one of his first attempts at something more modern. However, TJ is confident, saying he sees himself as a mix of R&B with a little rock (um…what?), pop, jazz, “you name it.” He says he needs to just go out there and kill it, and I find myself wondering if he might not have been better served just staying in his wheelhouse. He could really bring it with a classic soul track, and I don’t think he’s done it often enough for people to start complaining that he’s not taking risks yet. I dunno, this just seems like an unnecessary risk.
