After Miley Cyrus racked up a crazy amount of votes in the TIME Person of the Year poll last week, it seemed half the readership wondered what the world was coming to. Meanwhile, the other half thought, "Well, at least it won't be as bad as that time Hitler won."

Of course, the readers ultimately ended up going with Egypt’s General Abdul Fattah al-Sisi as their Person of the Year for 2013, but that doesn't mean Cyrus isn't still in the running for the honor, as TIME has announced its 2013 Person of the Year finalists.

In making the announcement on The Today Show, TIME Managing Editor Nancy Gibbs specified that the list is meant to recognize a “person who has had the most impact on events this year, for better or worse.” Here’s the complete list:

Bashar Assad, president of Syria

Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder

Ted Cruz, Texas senator

Miley Cyrus, singer

Pope Francis, leader of the Catholic Church

Barack Obama, president of the United States

Hassan Rouhani, president of Iran

Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of Health and Human Services

Edward Snowden, NSA whistleblower

Edith Windsor, gay-rights activist

If President Obama wins, he'll be only the second person in history to be awarded the honor three times, after President Franklin D. Roosevelt. (Obama was previously named Person of the Year in 2008 and 2012.) The winner will be announced Wednesday.

So who do you think should win the honor? Sound off in the comments!
