Timbaland is one of the busiest producers in the music industry, and his schedule is about to get even busier.
In an interview with Revolt TV, Timbaland revealed that he's working on a new Michael Jackson album. “To even go bigger would be two kings working together,” Timbaland says, adding that the first single will be called "Chicago." One would expect the album to be culled together from previously unreleased material from the late King of Pop.
Timbaland has been critical in the past of contemporary musicians resurrecting dead artists. When Drake and Chris Brown recorded songs featuring the late Aaliyah, a protege of the producer, he said: "Chris Brown got a record, it won't work. Drake can go do a record with Aaliyah, it ain't gonna work … Aaliyah music only work with its soulmate, which is me."
Jackson's record label, Epic, has continued to release music from the late singer since his death in 2009, with the most notable releasing being the soundtrack to the documentary concert feature This is It, which featured six previously unreleased recordings. In addition, there has been a deluxe anniversary reissue of Bad, the remix album Immortal and a live DVD. Epic isn't the only label getting in on the posthumous release business, as Motown has also issued a number of compilations of material Jackson recorded while signed to the iconic record label, adding four "remix suites".
However, this album of new material represents the most ambitious posthumous release yet.
