Tim Poe Fraud Update: His own DD214 documents prove he's lying - Video

The Tim Poe fraud scandal continues! The America's Got Talent contestant who wowed viewers with his audition last Monday but has since been outed as con artist for lying about his service in Afghanistan, e-mailed some documents to WFAA-TV in Dallas yesterday to prove that his claims on national TV were true.

According to educated eyes however, his own documents actually prove that he is indeed lying!

Aside from Tim's appearance on America's Got Talent where he claimed to have been hit by an RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) in Afghanistan, he had also appeared on WFAA-TV a week prior for a story on disabled veterans (playing golf). On that program, he also claimed to have been deployed to Iraq.

Furthermore, the This Ain't Hell blog (which has done a tremendous job of covering this story) posted an e-mail today from Tim Poe to Defenders of Freedom where Tim claims he was awarded a Purple Heart Medal.

The Minnesota National Guard released a statement this week that he sustained no combat injuries in 2009, and makes no mention of a deployment to Iraq. It also added that he was not awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds sustained in combat.

So what about Tim Poe's documents proving otherwise? WFAA-TV showed some of it onscreen yesterday on their follow-up feature on Tim. Upon closer scrutiny, This Ain't Hell blog points out that the DD214 makes no mention of a Purple Heart -- exactly as the Minnesota National Guard has stated. And the medical document he submitted makes no mention of an RPG -- the reason Tim claims on AGT ended his military career. The blog also points out that the document contains military jargon that WFAA-TV probably did not understand, which is why the reporter said that the documents said he "retired due to injuries sustained in the line of duty."

If you are still not convinced that he's lying (or at least embellishing he service record), try listening to an interview with Tim Poe the other day where he doesn't remember any details of the grenade exploding over his head.

This is serious stuff. The Stolen Valor Act says:

Whoever falsely represents himself or herself, verbally or in writing, to have been awarded any decoration or medal authorized by Congress for the armed forces of the United States, or any of the service medals or badges awarded to the members of such forces, or the ribbon, button, or rosette of any such badge, decoration or medal, or any colorable imitation thereof shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.

I guess Tim Poe's career is basically over before it even started.

Thanks again to This Ain't Hell blog for covering this story with comprehensive detail.
