Three Strikes and You're Out

(Here’s the results show recap from Howard!)

American Idol Season 8 Top 05

This is the time of year fear starts setting in for the stoutest of fans. Is Adam/Danny/Kris/Allison/Matt safe? Are too many people splitting their votes? Will a favorite be 'Daughtry'ed' this season? The internet is spinning out with these questions, despite the overwhelming collective thought that tonight is Matt's time to leave. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Shockingly, despite the fact this production team could not seem to handle the top five singing two songs on a theme, tonight they promise to have performances by Natalie Cole, Jamie Foxx and Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks, as well as a Ford video, and booting someone. Seems like they are underachievers when it comes to the actual show, doesn't it?

Over 47 million votes, and the kids are proud to have put in many themselves. Simon backtracks, and suddenly believes they are the most talented ever, and all could win. Until next week, of course, when he feels he could influence the results. The Ford video, for the hybrid, has the Idols singing 'Energy'. Then they perform, 'It Don't Mean A Thing' and 'I've Got Rhythm'. They are singing live, and all sound good!

Tuesday, May 15 after AI, Glee will preview the first episode! Can't wait.

There is a cake fight, and Danny and Allison, the birthday kids, get into a real food fight. Ryan was kind enough to give Danny a bill for clean up.

Results. Matt is up first, and he is on the right. Danny is next, and on the left side of the stage. Allison is next, and after another odd question, she is positioned on the left next to Danny. Kris is up, and is moved next to Matt. Now Adam, and they ask him to decide. And Adam picks Gokey and Allison. Allison and Danny are safe, and Kris, Adam and Matt are in the bottom 3. And Randy and company start dropping names like there is no tomorrow. And Danny is the only one left to not hit the bottom this season.

Natalie Cole sings 'Something's Got To Give' from her latest CD. And it goes way ugly by the end. Wow, the timing, the tone, the everything went way bad. And next, we get Taylor Hicks. Taylor sings 'Seven Mile Breakdown' from his latest CD, The Distance. He's looking thin and playing his guitar. And later, the harmonica.

Matt, Kris and Adam are back to centerstage. The one who is safe is ...Kris. We will find out who is going home after Jamie Foxx performs.

So, Jamie digitally sings a song, and it is about as exciting as watching paint dry. Afterwards, he talks to Crusty about the kids, and how great they are, and they are true artists. And then he plugged his movie. I refuse to go there. Instead, we go to commercial.

The journey is about to end for either Matt or Adam. Randy and Kara gloat for a bit, and then the results. Adam is safe, and Matt is finally going home. The package is playing, and I don't think the judges can do anything else to keep him around. They are a bit early, and giving him lots of time. The sing out, well, not as good as last night. I will leave it at that.

Next week is Rock week, with Slash as the mentor!
