The Voice 2 - Battle Round 4 - iTunes Studio Recordings Review
Here's my review of The Voice 2 Battle Round 4 iTunes Studio Recordings.
Another good batch of recordings with only one questionable one. Any guesses?
The reviews:
James Massone - True Colors
OK fine, I'm biased. I found this recording cute. This track sounds and looks like James. At least his voice is distinct right? All the points on this rating is for cuteness. I like it when a recording captures the essence of what we see on TV during the shows.
Rating: 3/5
Compare to: James vs. Wade
Mathai - Love Song
Sure, it's a bit affected, but this is a solid recording from Mathai. She will do very well with a better, more contemporary song choice during the live shows. Great job. Miles ahead of most of the American Idol tracks last week. The best recording this week in my opinion.
Rating: 4/5
Compare to: Mathai vs. Nicolle
Moses Stone - (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction
OMG Christina Aguilera, why? The single rating point is for the rap in the middle (which was a good thing!) But no. Why was this even recorded?
Rating: 1/5
Compare to: Moses vs. The Line
Karla Davis - Easy
This was a little bit too generic for me. But a solid recording from Karla. I cannot criticize the production and vocals. Just a bit plain among the good stuff. She needs to stand out if she wants go far.
Rating: 3/5
Compare to: Karla vs. Orlando
Naia Kete - I'm Yours
Naia suffers from the "image doesn't fit the recording" syndrome common among this season's batch of performers on reality TV. Her voice has no character, even if it sounded like she was trying. But I can see where Blake Shelton is going here: he wants all his acts to sound like Xenia and Dia Frampton! LOL. Still a solid recording though.
Rating: 3/5
Compare to: Naia vs. Jordan
Tony Vincent - Faithfully
The only track that charted on the Top 200 of iTunes overnight (#184). Tony is a Broadway-singer, and it shows in this track. He's Broadway-rocking this Journey song to wherever it will lead him. I would have liked a bit more body in this vocal -- but that probably would be impossible with anyone not named Steve Perry singing a Journey song. Tony's voice is too thin for this recording, but he may find a better song for his vocals somewhere down the line.
Rating: 3/5
Compare to: Tony vs. Justin
