For you TVD fans who were worried about how season 4 would turn out since the show’s epic plot twist and last season’s cliffhanger—namely, Elena becoming a vampire—well, this episode was for you. Elena’s transition is easily the most complex and engaging storylines in the show’s history and it has added a whole new dynamic to the #Stelena vs #Delana triangle that I didn’t expect to love so much. Turns out, Mystic Falls can still be epicly entertaining when damn near everyone suffers from blood lust. But how do you instill fear into a town full of blood thirsty vamps? Enter, Vampire Hunter.

Tonight’s episode opened with everyone’s favorite new guy, Connor, going in on Tyler with some crazy Vamp Hunter needles which make your fangs perma-fangy. Interesting. It’s safe to say New Guy Connor Vamp Hunter Maniac Crazy Person has already overstayed his welcome. My verdict is still out on Connor. I hate him, obviously, but we are supposed to right now. They’re making it a little too easy to hate on this dude. Remember how much we despised Klaus? Now I can’t imagine the show without him. If the previous seasons of TVD have taught us anything, it’s that things can always change and to expected the unexpected.

Speaking of the unexpected, who else always forgets they are all HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS? I actually laughed out loud when Stefan mentioned that it was the first time they were back in Alaric’s classroom because, I mean, they really only ever went to, like, three classes and Stefan is old as shit. Graduate already!

I will say that the classroom did add for a fitting backdrop to Elena and Rebekah’s pencil fight. Classic classroom antics involving a pencil through the shoulder. No biggie. Let’s ignore the fact that no one else in the class saw a giant pencil sticking out of Elena’s bloody shoulder and talk about why Rebekah is such a bitch, shall we? Listen, it’s easy to hate Rebekah. Her name was trending on Twitter throughout the show and let’s just say, the tweets weren’t exactly positive. She is our resident bitchy villain, yes, but Rebekah has layers, insecurities and so much depth. Disagree with me all you want but I LIKE her. Sure, she sucks sometimes. Taking Elena’s daylight ring at that really random daytime keg party was not cool. But Rebekah is the eternal mean girl. She is a vampire Regina George. With a crazy hybrid brother and mommy (and daddy) issues and running potential crushes off bridges, it’s hard not to feel a little ounce of sympathy for poor Rebekah. Right? Just me? I think Elena and Rebekah’s tumultuous relationship was one of the most entertaining things in the episode tonight. She’s pushing Elena to places we’ve never seen and I’m loving it. Go on with your bad self Beks. Yes, I’m calling Rebekah “Beks” now. Embrace it.

Before I get into Stelena vs Delena, I need to have a little freak out about Tyler and Caroline. First, I think it’s brilliant that Klaus is back to “protect” Tyler even though they hate each other and are both in love with the same girl. Amazing. Tyler potentially CHEATING ON CAROLINE with new girl werewolf? Not so amazing. The only upside is that we might finally see something substantial come from Klaus and Caroline’s insane chemistry. This, however, changes everything.

Something that will never change, it seems, is Elena’s fickle heart. She is learning to lose her inhibitions and start having some fun as a vampire. FINALLY. We have waited so long to see Elena actually be cool, let loose, and live a little. Ironic that all it took was for her to die. As Elena loosens up, Stefan is afraid he’s losing her. The build up to this revelation was subtle, but effective. Stefan’s talk with Caroline foreshadowed some worry on his end but it really just left us imagining him on The View than stressing about his relationship with Elena. [Seriously though, picture Stefan talking to Elizabeth Hassleback about how to train a new vampire. Hysterical] The truth is, we all kind of knew this was coming. Stefan is the uptight, self righteous one who has to keep his cool or he turns into a Ripper. Damon, on the other hand, can just be Damon. This episode acted as a shift in the triangle tide. This season has been Stelena heavy so far but I think Delena shippers are about to get their day. That is, if the scene where Damon started undressing in front of Elena wasn’t enough for you. What else did we learn this episode? Other than Damon’s bourbon is better than Stefan’s? Damon is a good brother. He’s good because he’s willing to give up his own happiness and feelings for Elena for his brother’s happiness. The problem is that Stefan can never be happy and that Elena is really into Damon, if she just lets herself be really into Damon. Her hallucinations while she was on werewolf venom were telling. She’s getting pulled back into Damon’s allure. I’m Team Damon on this one. She needs someone like him right now to pull her through her wild vamp years. Plus, I really want to see a Delena underwear dancing blood sucking binge scene.

I’ll give a quick mention to Matt and Jeremy, who are usually useless, but tonight, they proved they can be good for something. Matt continued his Tour of Redemption by being a human bloodbag and Jeremy tricked the Vampire Hunter. This only warrants a mention because I think there is more to this Jeremy plays Hunter story. I could see him actually taking it seriously and I think that would bring out a side in him we’ve never seen: a badass one.

Back on the vampire hunter front, Klaus and Damon—aka my new vote for a spin off buddy cop comedy TV series—corner Connor and we find out that he is “one of five.”

That can’t be good. I’m still confused on the Connor front but I’ll leave you with my favorite Damon line of the night:

“Did I say I was a germaphobe? Sorry, I meant vampire.”

So there you have it. What do you think “one of the five” means? Can Klaus be trusted? Should Elena stick close to Stefan or Damon during her transition? Will Caroline find out Tyler might have cheated!?? Sound off in the comments below!
