The Vampire Diaries - Season 4 Episode 15 - Recap - Stand By Me

Here’s the recap for Season 4  Episode 15  of The Vampire Diaries: “Stand By Me" on The CW!!

Last week left us on the edge of our seats as Silas sucked all the blood from Jeremy leaving him dead. How did this horrible scenario come to be you ask? None other than the infamous Katherine Pierce who had apparently been following the crew for weeks. Not only did she kill Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), she also brought Silas back to life and stole the cure. The cure isn’t the only thing missing, so is Bonnie (Kat Graham).

Trying to decipher everything that happened, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) figure out that because Jeremy was one of the 5 hunters, he was supernatural, and the Gilbert ring, which protects people from being killed by supernatural beings or causes won’t work on him. Damon orders Stefan to take Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Jeremy get back to Mystic falls while he stays back to find Bonnie.

Stefan explains to Damon that the Gilbert ring won't work on Jeremy.

Upon their arrival home, they find Caroline (Candie Accola) cleaning up the blood left from Kole. Stefan tells Caroline he believes Elena is in denial about Jeremy coming back to life. Overhearing them she assures them she is not in denial, and that since Jeremy’s mark has disappears, maybe it means his supernatural destiny has been fulfilled and he is back to normal. Therefore the ring will be able to save him.

Back on the island Rebekah (Caroline Holt) and Damon team up to find Bonnie. While out searching they also have to be on the lookout for Silas who is not roaming the island somewhere. Rebekah has other ideas when she hears Katherine has stolen the cure and wants to find her instead. On their journey they come across Galen (Charlie Bewley) (one of the 5 hunters) and Damon immediately goes after him. He and Rebekah know he was working with Katherine and threaten his life to get some answers. He tells them he met Katherine while tracking vampires years ago. She enlisted him to help her find Silas having already learned about the cure from her werewolf friend.

We find Bonnie in the middle of the woods along with Professor Shane (David Alpay). She wonder’s how he was able to heal his leg so quickly and he tells her it was the work of Silas. He breaks the news to her that Jeremy has passed away and she lets her magic begin to get out of hand. He settles her down by letting his know that she and her magic may be the only way to bring him back to life. Stefan calls Damon to tell him he needs to come back as the only thing that will help calm her down would be his sire bond to her. He says the reason he stayed on the island was because he knew what Elena needed was her best friend, not for them to be together.

Apparently Bonnie needs to work quickly as Dr. Meredith Fells (Torrey DeVitto) tells Elena that she needs to release the body to her and begin to prepare funeral plans. Not wanting to believe that another family member is dead she goes after Meredith and screams that she needs Bonnie to make everything better. Just when we thought things couldn’t get any worse Matt (Zach Roerig) shows up to find his best friend dead on the bed. He knows they can’t do anything for him now and asks Elena to go somewhere with him. They drive over to the “stoner pit” at school to find Vicki (Matt’s deceased sister) and J+V written on the wall. He tells her that even though Vicki is gone, she isn’t totally gone, and maybe that is how things will be with Jeremy.

Crazy Professor Shane is at the brainwashing ways again telling Bonnie that in order to bring Jeremy, along with Grams and all the other supernatural beings back to life she will need to complete the third massacre as stated by Silas. She will need to kill 12 more people to create an “expression triangle” and gain enough power them all back. Apparently when Ketsia banished Silas she told him the cure could be taken and he would die of old age, or he could choose to not take it and die. What Professor Shane failed to mention before is that there is a sort of supernatural purgatory. Bonnie has the power to lift the veil between the real world and the purgatory and allow all of those beings to come back, including Jeremy and Grams is she fulfills the third massacre.

Professor Shane tells Bonnie what needs to be done in order to bring Jeremy back to life

Damon leaves Rebekah to continue his quest to find Bonnie while she stays back to torture Galen some more. He tells her that he is in possession of Sila’s mask. He tells her that no one really knows what Silas looks like, so it would be impossible to know who he is if they come across him on the island claiming she doesn’t even know for sure if he could be Silas. He tries to convince her to use the cure to kill him, but she claims that isn’t her supernatural destiny, it’s his.

Damon finally finds Bonnie and the two head back to Mystic Falls. She tells him what Professor Shane told her to do and everyone pretty much thinks she is crazy. Elena makes her way upstairs for one last check on her brother. After pulling the blanket from his pale face and taking in the scent of his decomposing body she snaps. Running downstairs she grabs lighter fluid and begins to cover the house threatening to burn it down. She says she is going to take Stefan and Caroline’s suggestions of a cover story and burn down the house with Jeremy in it. She says the house only holds memories of the family members she loved that have died. Stefan tells Damon to use the sire bond to stop her from hurting. Kneeling down next to her Damon holds her and tells her to turn it off, turn it off, turn it off, and we see Elena become calm and focused.

Was Damon referring to the human emotions inside of her? Will Bonnie really go through with the massacre? Will they catch Katherine?
