The Vampire Diaries - Season 4 Episode 13 - Recap - Into the Wild

Here’s the recap for Season 4  Episode 13  of The Vampire Diaries: “Into the Wild" on The CW!

It's field trip time for the crew of Mystic Falls as they set out to finally discover... The Cure.

Professor Shane (David Alpay) returns to an island off Nova Scotia where he ventured one year before, but this time it’s for a very different reason. This time he is with the crew from Mystic Falls on their search for the cure. As they land on the island Shane remembers the legend that brought him here a year ago. It was said that a drop of blood in one of the wells on the island will allow the person to see and speak to a lost one. He tells Bonnie (Kat Graham) that he taught his wife Kaitlyn (Aimee Garcia )expressionism and she was using it to resurrect their son after his car accident. Yet, the power became too much and she wound up killing herself.

Turns out the legend was true as he rappelled down into the well to find Kaitlyn. She tells Shane of Silas and how he can bring people back. Shane sets off on a year-long mission that includes the rock, the hunter (Jeremy) and a witch (Bonnie- related to Ketsia).

With the death of Kol, Jeremy’s (Steven R. McQueen)  hunter’s mark is complete and tells of the legend of Ketsia and Silas. Silas, asked Ketsia (a witch) to make him a spell for immortality, but when he planned to use it on another women, Ketsia freaked out and killed this other women. Afterwards she trapped him in a cave and buried him alive with the cure hoping he would take it and end up on the other side with him forever. The remaining marks were supposed to serve as a map for the hunters to find Silas and kill him themselves when he protested against taking the cure, but Bonnie can’t make it out.

It seems as though finding the cure isn’t the only problem- what they are all going to do once they’ve found it is another issue. Professor Shane and Damon(Ian Somerhalder) have never been on good terms but when he pushes the Elena(Nina Dobrev) being human issue on him it takes it to a different level. Having caught wind of Damon’s uncertainties, Elena tries her best to convince him of her love for him- sire bond of not.

Damon and Professor Shane set off to find the cure

With day one dwindling Jeremy is out of water and almost out of life. Yet, a mystery islander saved his life for reasons unknown. Seems his good luck didn’t last long as he is taken in the middle of the night. Day two starts on a search for their ever important hunter. Bonnie sets out to find a location spell, Damon stays back to keep an eye on Professor Shane and Elena, Rebekah (Claire Holt) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) (what a crew) take off on foot.

While things are getting crazy on the island, things are just as nuts back in Mystic Falls. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is still trapper in Elena and Jeremy’s house due to Bonnie’s spell and Tyler (Micheal Trevino) stops by for a visit. Tyler tells Klaus that once the cure is found the entire bloodline will be cured as well, ending his sire bond to him. Feeling invincible Tyler taunts him… not a good idea. Caroline (Candie Accola) stops by and Klaus uses this opportunity to get back at Tyler. He attacks Caroline and refuses to save her to get back at Tyler.

Back on the island Damon is still questioning Professor Shane’s motives. Digging deeper Damon discovers those weren’t the only things necessary for the cure to work. Kaitlyn told her husband that in order for it to work there needs to be an extreme amount of magical energy. She tells him that the only way to do that is to perform three massacres. When Shane tells her he can’t kill innocent people, Kaitlyn tells him all he has to do is convince them. Damon figures out the first two massacres, and their group is supposed to be the third.

When Rebekah, Stefan and Elena return to the campground they still haven’t found Jeremy. And now Bonnie and Professor Shane are missing too, along with the tombstone. Damon doesn’t last with them long either as he tells Elena he that doesn’t want to be human, and tells her she should be with Stefan. When will it end?!

Back in Mystic falls Caroline is close to death and uses Klaus’ love for her to save him. She convinces Klaus that he is hurt because of his brother's death and wants to avenge him regardless of who he hurts. She tells him there is a part of him that is human and she wishes she could forget all the horrible things he has done. Showing his true emotions towards her he allows her to feed from him.

With the group broken up the three most unlikely allies have to set out on their own to discover the cure. While Rebekah, Stefan and Elena set out on their own, Professor Shane meets up with an old friend from the island, along with Bonnie and Jeremy. (I don’t know how Professor Shane plans to get these two to cooperate with him in finding the cure, but I guess that’s what next week is for.) Damon- amazingly hot Damon- is out in the woods alone when he is attacked but none other, then a hunter, leaving him lifeless on the ground.

Rebekah and Stefan want to find the cure and be human

(No worries, he’s totally fine- they show him in previews for the next episode) I can’t wait for the episode when they finally discover the cure and we see who Elena’s love really lies with!
