The Secret Circle - Season 1 Episode 19 - Crystal - Recap

After a two-week hiatus, The Secret Circle is back at the top of its game with a revealing episode that brings to light a couple of the season’s biggest mysteries. A new Blackwell sibling, a potential death, and a creepy conspiracy topline an eventful return episode.

When the episode starts, Faye and Melissa are still on that easter-egg hunt for those pesky crystals. Faye finds a diary and discovers that her mom and John Blackwell “were secretly hooking up.” Everyone meets up and then splits up really quickly, but it feels like they’re going on more of a granny hunt than a crystal hunt.

Diana meets back up with the creeper Grant who lied about owning a boat. He’s undeniably cute, so it doesn’t seem that unrealistic that she’s willing to give him another chance. Adam and Melissa willingly leave her behind for a date with the stud. Jake and Melissa bump into Cal where the two of them get into a little semi-threatening spat.

Cassie’s granny is back, and she doesn’t seem to be thrilled about Blackwell’s return. She tells Cassie she’ll try to play nice, but something makes me doubt that. Cal follows Cassie, Jake, and Faye as they head off on stop #1 in the 2012 granny hunt. Melissa and Adam are fishing through her granny’s old crystals trying to find a trace of what they need.

Cassie finds a creepy conspiracy wall at Jake’s grandpa’s place, where there’s a list of each name in the circle. There’s also a ton of creepy photos and dimly lit rooms. Yep, definitely an old secluded grandpa abode. He shows up all suspicious, and warns Jake that the circle will be the death of him. He tells them that Blackwell has been after a new circle all along, a youthful one consumed completely by dark magic. The six crystals together will form a crystal skull which is one of the most powerful and destructive weapons. YIKES!

Cassie’s grandma is working with Charles, who is trying to at least capture John Blackwell. She has definitely started drinking the brainwash Kool-Aid. Melissa and Adam pull Diana out of her date with annoying-but-cute Australian guy so she can identify a crystal, but he definitely gets suspicious.

Jake tells Cassie that she might not be the only child of Blackwell in the circle and then Cal steals the map to the Grandpa’s hidden crystal. Cassie conveniently took a picture of the wall, and has the map stored right in a picture on her phone. Diana and Grant hit another snag when she gets a text that derails their date. She leaves him in the dust yet again.

Adam and Melissa head to the creepy mines, where their magic won’t work due to the presence of iron. Adam finds one of the crystals across a chasm but almost doesn’t make it back across due to a flimsy rope. Cal shows up moments later with the map and they end up bumping right into him. He wants the crystal for money, and since he has a gun they just sort of hand it over. Cassie manages to stop Cal as he’s on his motorcycle headed for escape.

Jane successfully distracts Blackwell long enough for Charles to temporarily stun him. Charles wants to kill him, but Jane tries to stop him. After Charles lights the candle that should kill Blackwell, Jane drops to the ground. I hope she’s not dead for real this time! Blackwell switched her candle while he had days in the house alone.

Jake and Adam hold down Cal and they mark him with a spell that will track his whereabouts. They warn him not to come back. Faye still wants to believe that she’s a daughter of Blackwell, but her hopes are dashed when John tells her that the diary’s contents were all in her mother’s head. He’s gotta be the worst almost-father-figure anyone could ask for. Diana tells Cassie she needs to take a little break from the circle for awhile. She’s doing this all for a guy she pretty much just met. And then… OMG… Diana is the other Blackwell of the group! The mine had a spell on it so nobody with dark magic can enter, and Diana couldn’t get into the mine. She is Cassie’s… half sister?

I absolutely loved this episode. Is Jane dead? I need to know… I can’t wait for more. There’s only a couple episodes left till the finale, and the next episode looks to be just as twisty. I still think “Curse” is the best episode of the season, but this one was fantastic and the preview for “Traitor” is amazing!
