The Originals - Recap: Where's Davina When You Need Her?
The Originals carried on tonight with an episode that featured a werewolf kegger, a dagger made of pure torment, a spontaneous resurrection, and one main cast member bleeding to death from every orifice. Man, do we love supernatural stuff!

Episode 13 opened with a miraculous resurrection! From inside the Deveraux family tomb, the recently sacrificed Monique rose from her deep sleep. Apparently, the death of Papa Tunde, a witch who’d been brought back to life in her place, had breathed new life into the niece of Sophie (Daniella Pineda). Celeste was there to greet her, masquerading as Sabine the tour guide leading a group of unsuspecting gawkers through the graveyard. Before long, word had spread to Klaus, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), and their team back at the compound. Although, it was Hayley who suggested that which all others had failed to see. If Davina had worked so hard to sketch Celeste’s coming assault, then Elijah’s former flame was most likely one of the witches accidentally brought back in the Harvest they’d deemed a total failure. Marcel, for what it’s worth, was less concerned with Celeste and more focused on finding Genevieve, a witch he’d previously caught a tiny, inconclusive glimpse of during Sunday mass. We know Genevieve as the witch who somehow helped Rebekah and Marcel in their attempt to push Klaus out of New Orleans decades prior. We were also clued in this week to the fact that this relationship did not end well. She has secrets to share, stuff Marcel and Rebekah do not want surfacing. More importantly, Marcel now had a reason to snuff her out. If it is another opportunity to revive his little buddy Davina, then he’d gladly put Genevieve back in her tomb.

As this all was transpiring, Rebekah did Elijah the favor of relocating Hayley to the safety of the plantation. There, the Original sister became privy to the fact that Hayley was quite fine with being hidden away if it meant she could host the werewolf kegger to end all werewolf keggers as a means of meeting her estranged family. Remember, Hayley’s crescent line of wolves work in the reverse due to a curse ordered by Marcel. On the night of a full moon, they get a few hours to party as human beings. Rebekah was down!

Surprise! That awful Bastiana, the elder witch killed during the original Harvest, popped up at Father Kieran’s church grand reopening to hex the man for working with her supernatural enemies. It seemed Father Kieran would suffer through the same fate as his nephew, and the only person he could turn to for assistance was his niece, Cami (Leah Pipes). I love that Cami is a truly intelligent woman. It seems kind of odd that there really aren’t many grown-up women in the world of The Vampire Diaries, but Cami has us covered. I love that she knew right away not to trust Genevieve when she arrived at her bar, supernatural super-dagger in hand, with her offer. If Cami chose to impale Klaus through the heart with this dagger of eternal pain, then the witches would cure Kieran of his impending doom. Cami didn’t even give it a second thought. She knows Klaus and his friends always come out on top, so she immediately formed an alliance with the Original hybrid. Klaus, in return, came up with a scheme to cure Kieran of the hex. If he could bleed Kieran out, the vervain in his system would drain. Meaning, Klaus could attempt to compel him to fight the curse and ignore the witches. This seemed like a perfectly logical idea in theory, but after a few agonizing hours at the church going through with the procedure, it flopped. Klaus, in the end, thought up what he felt was a better plan. At least, it was very much more “Klaus.”

With the support of Monique’s intuition, Sophie agreed to aid Marcel in his quest to find the remaining three witches who lived because of the Harvest failure. Sophie’s magic, however, was greatly weakened by the disastrous ritual, and even a simply locator spell required a tremendous amount of time. No bother! Klaus made his presence known, snatched Monique from the safety of Marcel’s protection, and rushed her into the empty French Quarter. There, he commanded the witches, whose stench still lingered in the night air, to reveal themselves. If they denied his request, he’d impale Monique with the dagger Cami had handed over to him. Unfortunately for Klaus, Marcel has a love for children, and he refused to allow his leader to harm another teenage girl in their war. The two had a bit of a scuffle that eventually ended with Marcel’s neck snapped and Sophie sneaking in to impale Klaus with the fallen blade. Klaus, reeling in pain, fell unconscious to the pavement, and Sophie ran off with her niece.
As all of this was transpiring, Elijah had lured Celeste into spending the day strolling with him. By nightfall, he admitted to knowing the truth about her identity, deducing as much by recalling the moment he first met “Sabine,” who immediately recognized his identity on the spot. Also, Sabine was a key player in the death of the coven’s last elder, a move that forced her to step in to help in the Harvest personally. Celeste immediately jumped back into her agenda, kissing Elijah and cursing him. Poisoned by his former lover, Elijah had the energy to save only one of his loved ones. Klaus had been dragged off by Bastiana after Sophie rendered him incapacitated, but what of Hayley and Rebekah?
Party’s here! Hayley’s wolf line arrived nude to the plantation, taking full advantage of the laundry hung by the she-wolf in the yard. Well, mostly it was an excuse to cover the essentials and show off as much other skin as possible. Rebekah, for one, spent the evening cozying up to a wolf of her own. The two danced the night away before heading into the woods for a hot and heavy kissing session. There, Rebekah learned the truth. The wolves had struck some sort of a deal with the witches to remove their curse, a deal that required them to attack Rebekah, leaving her weak from their bites. After leaving Rebekah writhing in pain in the middle of the woods, the wolves left alive scurried off, and Genevieve made her presence known.

Meanwhile, Hayley finally met Jackson, the wolf who’d been watching over her for the entire season of this show. Jackson is her betrothed. The two come from the same tribe of wolves but not the same bloodline. They’re like royalty without thrones! That was made perfectly clear. For a moment, I think we were all a little concerned by his infatuation with Hayley, the woman he’s meant to marry. Hayley, for what it’s worth, thought the whole situation to be quite ridiculous until Celeste’s magic started a massive fire that began to burn the plantation to the ground. Inside, Jackson protected Hayley/ Andrea. That is, until Elijah arrived to rescue her from the flames. Thus, Elijah had made his choice, using whatever energy he had to save his love over his family. Well, in his defense, everything was slightly unclear. Celeste didn’t really lay out the whole game plan, and Elijah knew for sure that Hayley was at the plantation and Rebekah was close. While Elijah ran off to find Rebekah, Hayley thanked Jackson for his kindness. She further promised to break the curse over their people, a promise Celeste had falsely made in an effort to lure as many wolves to the party as possible. By the way, Elijah was very quick to kiss Celeste after denying Hayley all season, so I have no issue with this Jackson wolf swooping in to save the day if that’s how it ends up going down.
Episode 13 ended with three obnoxious encounters with three very powerful witches. First, Cami and Kieran bumped into Bastiana as the priest began to suffer from the hex. It’s the witches’ means of “cleansing” him of his sins for helping the vampires of the French Quarter, and he’s set to endure an agonizing death. $1 says Cami is the one to send that mean lady back to the grave in the future. Also, didn’t the witches initially punish Cami’s innocent brother to get back at Kieran and the vampires? Was he being “purified” as well? They’re heinous. Next, Elijah and Celeste had some more words in the woods where she promised to end his family’s legacy. Elijah, infuriated and ready to kill each remaining witch, rushed back to rally Marcel and the troops at the compound.

Lastly, Sophie, who’d clearly made an enemy of Klaus the Original, fought to convince Monique to leave town with her in order to start a normal life away from the world of witchcraft. Monique revealed her true intentions. Sophie hadn’t believed in the Harvest ritual, and their ancestors were looking to punish her for it. Monique, it seems, murdered Sophie in cold blood before walking off with Celeste, Bastiana, and Genevieve. I mean, literally, I think Sophie bled from every orifice into the cobblestones of New Orleans. R.I.P. for now Sophie. I hope this isn’t truly the end for you. Where’s Davina when you need her? Davina hated these witches for lying to her. That's not going to change if she's brought back simply because she's been brought back. By the way, if Monique seriously thinks the four sacrificed young girls are each going to come back as I assumed she hinted, she’s mistaken. There is no way Celeste is dying of her own volition so Davina can return. Then again, hasn’t she been around this whole time before the actual Harvest happened? Meaning, if four witches are alive in the place of the four teenage girls who were sacrificed, how does this work?
What did you think of The Originals Season 1 Episode 13, “Crescent City”? Will Hayley’s baby be the key to end this all? Will Davina or Sophie return? What will happen to Klaus and Rebekah?
