The One - Making a Music Star

This guy, Michael Cole, was an unbelievably bad singer. He's definitely casted as the "bad boy". Light-weight bad boy, but I'll take it. I'm rooting for Michael. We like watching cute trainwrecks from North Carolina.

Don't expect American Idol caliber singing here folks. The whole point of the show is to see how these wannabe singers develop each week via all kinds of training and workshops in a Big Brother-like environment. Judging by what I've seen and heard tonight, there's nowhere to go but up! They're literally starting from the basement.

It's a bit of a commitment unfortunately to follow the "personal lives" of the singers, just like Rock Star: INXS was last Summer -- although, seeing the antics of J.D. Fortune and co. did provide some interesting TV. Perhaps we'll see some of those for The One. I think they've stacked this show with enough cuties to get some people interested. Though my initial feeling was this was going to be good, I now think that it will just attract a small audience, just like Rock Star. When the "rules" get complicated like this, most people will tune out.

Finally, whoever greenlighted that judge with the dyed beard basically gave this show a death sentence. It's such a joke, and because of that you cannot take this show seriously.

I really like the host though.

A final verdict in a couple of weeks.
