The New Normal - Episode 7 - Recap - The Godparent Trap
In Episode 7 of The New Normal, “The Godparent Trap,” David & Bryan searched for godparents for their unborn baby, Bryan attended a confessional at a Catholic church, and something terrible happened to Shania’s guinea pig.

Shania (Bebe Wood) brought home a guinea pig named Marshmallow because she was in charge of taking care of him for the week. She also holds the same affection for the baby growing inside of her mother, Goldie (Georgia King). Shania initially thought that the baby would be her younger half-brother or half-sister, but Goldie explained to her that the doctor actually implanted another woman’s egg into her body. Later in the episode, Shania left Marshmallow with David (Justin Bartha) & Bryan (Andrew Rannells) for a day, but Marshmallow passed away.... so David, Bryan, and Rocky (NeNe Leakes) tried to cover this up by purchasing a new guinea pig. The only difference was... the new guinea pig was Female, and Marshmallow was Male. Shania immediately noticed the difference when she arrived at David & Bryan’s home.
Shania: “Something’s wrong with Marshmallow... he has a vagina.”
The full cast (minus Nana & Clay) held a funeral for Marshmallow. Bryan was relieved that Shania chose to house Marshmallow’s body in a closed shoe-box... because he certainly didn’t want to witness the decompos(ing) remains.

In order to ask someone else to be the godparent of his child, Bryan felt like he had to find God within himself. So he attended a confessional inside a Catholic church. This scene was pretty hilarious because they were talking about Jesus’ six-pack, and comparing Jesus to Chuck Norris.
Bryan: “I was raised Catholic. But you won’t accept me [for being gay].”
Priest: “The church is not anti-gay. Jesus was the Chuck Norris of his day.”
Priest: “Jesus was a fighter, son. How about you?”

When searching for godparents, David & Bryan initially asked a lesbian couple to be their godparents; but, they declined. After giving this much thought, they asked Shania & Rocky to be their unborn baby’s godparents. Shania & Rocky were ecstatic about this!

What did you guys think about this episode? Ryan Murphy has seriously toned down his scripts! I could feel Nana’s absence in this episode.... it was highly noticeable. Without Nana, this show isn’t that controversial anymore. It’s just like any other sitcom (which includes funny one-liners).
