Following in the footsteps of the terrific Avenue Q, The Muppets are looking to take their particular brand of felt puppetry-infused humor to the Broadway stage, reports Variety.

On May 31, over 85 Muppets appeared at the New Amsterdam Theater to put on a proof-of-concept show for Disney Theater Productions. The show was comprised of existing material, and was organized under the direction of Alex Timbers, whose past credits include Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, The Pee-Wee Herman Show and the upcoming Broadway adaptation of Rocky.

The Muppets Broadway show is reportedly only one potential project under consideration from Disney Theatrical’s lineup of shows-in-development. Other stage adaptations include versions of Shakespeare in Love and Father of the Bride. along with a new version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. among the titles that are far further along on the road to the stage.

According to attendees, the brief show went well. However, the show remains simply a possibility, as opposed to being set in stone.

Of course, you won't have to go to Broadway to see The Muppets, as the to 2011's The Muppets is already filming. The Muppets... Again! is expected to hit theaters in March.
