The Most Popular Posts of 2009

One shining light of good news: The blog increased readership by 23% from last year. Some of the numbers were distressing at first, because for some reason I miss people commenting on everything I post and the numbers somehow reinforced it. But looking at some of the details, I found out that loyal Rickey.org readers increased a little bit from last year and actually stayed a little bit longer. We just had that many new people who didn't linger. A lot of first-time visits arrived late in the year when the topics on the blog were more diverse.

During the Summer, though the amount of visitors remained the same from the previous year, time on the site really dipped. I'm going to have to fix that. I suspect Twitter and Facebook had something to do with it since Summer was when I really got into social sites. People who would normally let me know what they think in the comments, are instead letting me know via Twitter or Facebook. Maybe that commenting experiment I did discouraged commenting, or comments are just not "in" anymore, I don't know.

For those keeping score, we've logged 24,700,000 visitors since April 1, 2004. Again, I wish that was money.

At any rate, here are the most viewed pages on the blog for 2009. As I said before, Rickey.org is an Adam Lambert fansite -- even if some of the die-hard Adam fans just refuse to believe it. I'm hoping that next year, we can have more hits that are non-Idol related. We've had a few this year, like Susan Boyle, Kanye West, Kevin Skinner, Mia Carruthers and Serena Williams, but the Idol posts are still the most popular.

The Top 25:

25. Danny Gokey Hero Video and MP3 (February 17, 2009)

24. Kris Allen Ain't No Sunshine Video and MP3 (March 31, 2009)

23. Adam Lambert Feeling Good Video and MP3 (April 28, 2009)

22. Video (tag)

21. Adam Lambert For Your Entertainment AMA Performance Video (November 22, 2009)

This post still gets a few hundred visitors a day.

20. Adam Lambert Open-Mouth Kissing Another Guy (March 2, 2009)

When compiling this list, I was surprised that this post did very well. It was not that popular when I first posted it since everyone was linking to VFTW.

19. Adam Lambert One and Cryin' Video and MP3 (May 12, 2009)

18. Adam Lambert Whole Lotta Love Video and MP3 (May 5, 2009)

17. Adam Lambert Black or White Video and MP3 (March 10, 2009)

16. Adam Lambert Born To Be Wild Video and MP3 (April 14, 2009)

15. Adam Lambert If I Can't Have You Video and MP3 (April 21, 2009)

14. Kris Allen Apologize and Heartless Video and MP3 (May 12, 2009)

The most viewed Kris Allen post on the blog this year. "Heartless" was arguably the reason Kris won. This performance was simply more popular than what Adam put out at this point in the competition -- when he had dominated week after week. Timing is everything.

13. Adam Lambert (tag)

12. Anoop Desai Anoop Dog Audition (January 14, 2009)

This post is still on the first page of Google for "Anoop Desai". Not bad!

Still going strong angels!

6. So You Think You Can Dance - Crotch Flash (September 30, 2009)

Lesson learned: Sex sells.

5. Danny Gokey - I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Audition (January 14, 2009)

This was the #1 "Danny Gokey" search on Google for a few weeks.

4. Adam Lambert Tracks of My Tears Video and MP3 (March 25, 2009)

3. Rickey.org Page 2 (page 2)

2. American Idol 8 (category)

1. Adam Lambert Mad World Video and MP3 (April 7, 2009)

Still at the #1 spot on Google for "Adam Lambert Mad World" and my most successful post ever. Every post on Rickey.org should be like this. It was perfectly timed and dominated the #1 spot on Google when it was the #1 search term on Google Trends.
