The Lying Game - Season 2 Episode 1 - Season Premiere - Recap and Review - The Revengers
You guys, it’s my first time recapping The Lying Game, and I’ve never been happier to immerse myself in so much deceit. The Season 2 premiere, entitled “The Revengers,” featured the wake of Alec (Adrian Pasdar) and Rebecca’s (Charisma Carpenter) wonky wedding. With Alec behind bars, and the recent revelation that Sutton (Alexandra Chando) knows that Rebecca is her birth mother, how long would it take for the shiz to hit the fan? It took about thirty seconds.
After being hounded by the press, the whole crew forced their way through the crowd in an attempt to enter the courthouse for Alec’s bail hearing. Mads (Alice Greczyn) put on her best “socialite ‘hating’ the paparazzi” face, while Emma thought up ways to slay Alec. Mads, Alec’s daughter, hoped that her father stayed behind bars now that it’d become obvious that she and her brother, Thayer (Christian Alexander), were involved in his undoing. She and Emma anxiously awaited the verdict in the ladies room. It's like a forcefield from scary dudes!
Sutton emerged from one of the stalls after Mads ducked out, only to have Emma shove her right back inside once Rebecca barged in. Rebecca is so good at faux apologies, and her attempt to “fix” things with Emma now that Alec was actually incarcerated did the trick. Once Emma bought the fakery, Sutton and Rebecca had some one-on-one time to plot their next mother/ daughter lie-fest. Basically, they want Sutton to keep faking a relationship with her twin, and Alec to stay in jail for as long as possible.
Alec sat pretty as he awaited his freedom. Whoops, even Alec can’t make miracles happen! Bail denied. Alec threw Emma a snarky smirk coupled with a creeptastic wink, while Rebecca cried a whole Nile of crocodile tears. Knowing they’d never accept her offer, she even went as far as to welcome Thayer and Mads to move in with her. Afterwards, she cornered Ted in an attempt to make nice. The attempt, needless to say, failed. Meanwhile, Emma’s gut still told her that Alec knew the identity of her birth mother.

What does Rebecca want? She wants her twins, and she wants Ted. Basically, the ultimate plan is to eliminate Kristin (Helen Slater) from the picture. Paying homage to the opening credits, Rebecca and Sutton floated in a vividly colored swimming pool and daydreamed up their ideal future. Sutton wants Emma gone, but she’ll have to settle for a twin.
At the Mercer residence, Kristin informed her girls that she’d been seeing a divorce lawyer but only to inform herself of what she’s entitled to. Poor Laurel (Allie Gonino), left absolutely in the dark, still maintained hope that her parents could reconcile. Before the conversation could get too deep, Sutton popped up in the window and motioned for Emma to head to the bedroom. Inside, Emma vented about Alec’s strange court antics. Is Alec a step ahead of them? If he goes to prison, so do his secrets!
Thus, Emma made her way down to the jail to visit Alec, who was quick to admit that he’d known the whole twin switcheroo bit nearly the entire time it’d been going on. He made it clear that if she came clean about the whole scenario, she’d shred her phony family to pieces. Key advice; don’t trust Sutton.

Ethan (Blair Redford) was looking rough when he woke from what I’d like to call a late night party, but what was more likely one too many fire roasted weenies and two beers to top it off. Wow, did Emma leave him wrecked. Dan (Tyler Christopher) gave him a little tough love, but Theresa (Yara Martinez) was more considerate. She advised him to keep fighting for “Sutton”/ Emma.
One manicure into the relationship, and Rebecca suggested that Sutton start officially calling her “Mom.” After some legitimately sentimental bonding time with “Mom,” Sutton tracked down Ethan. After lending a hand to help him fix his motorcycle, Sutton brought forth her handy dandy spare helmet, and the two went for a joyride. Just let Emma fix Kristin and Ted’s marriage. That’s too boring for Sutton. A few seconds on the bike, and a mystery rider appeared from the dust. What are the odds, right? Oh, well. A mini race ensued until Ethan neglected to put Sutton in anymore speed-soaked danger. Sutton wasn’t pleased. She’s not one to date a quitter. Then, Sutton “twisted” her ankle.

What do you know; Sutton considers a fake twisted ankle to be fate! Back at the cabin, Ethan helped her ice her “sprain” while Sutton planted seeds of Emma and Thayer shacking up. Ethan doesn’t believe in destiny or Pocahontas. Later on, Sutton was disappointed to receive a surprise visit from Mads after getting all squeaky clean for Ethan’s return. What’s it like having a murder for a father? Not as hard as getting Ethan into bed, allegedly.
After getting the scoop from Emma regarding her discussion with his father, Thayer decided to press his luck with a conversation of his own. Basically, Alec thinks Thayer is a big slut for bouncing back and forth between two twins. Kind of convincing, but more douchey coming from a dad. Well, Alec isn’t happy that Thayer helped get him arrested. How about, stop hiding tremendous secrets and maybe murdering kids? Also, Alec called in Theresa with a proposition. After some convincing, he got her to represent him! A clever move; get the last person who’d believe you to believe you, and you win. We were left in the dark, of course, but Theresa now believes that Alec was framed. You know what? So do I.
At the country club, we met Jordan a.k.a. “other guy on motorcycle.” He seemed nice enough; cocky but not evil.
Sutton went all Misery back at the cabin, begging Rebecca to crack her ankle with a log once she realized her latest lie was floundering. Rebecca, on the other hand, gave great advice. Quit lying to Ethan because you’re losing this battle, Sutton. I really like Rebecca as a character, even though she’s a villainess. I think of her more as an anti-hero, kind of like Sutton herself. Sutton is kind of like season 1 Cordelia Chase! Still, both are liars. Not Cordelia, Sutton and Rebecca.

Time for the big event! Laurel’s fancy concert sucked the whole cast into a whirlwind of drama and lies, all to the pretty tune of a country ditty. Mads and Emma chatted about how the trial is tearing apart her family, specifically Thayer, for a few seconds before Mads traded Emma in for a bottle of booze. My kinda girl! Meanwhile, Rebecca did her best to schmooze Kristin with another fake apology, only to nail her through the chest with the information that her affair with Ted wasn’t merely sexual. They even talked fertility!
Kristin and Ted bumped into each other, and Emma’s plan to have the two reconnect while watching their daughter perform was set into motion. At the base of some tree, Mads wallowed in her drunken stupor as Ethan comforted her. Ryan dumped her between seasons, apparently. Ethan was fine company, until Mads traded up and snatched Jordan just before he could be escorted out by security for gate crashing. No introduction, just swimming in undies.
Kristin and Ted ruined Laurel’s performance with obnoxious bickering, driving her from the stage. Before the family left, though, Thayer pulled Emma aside to finally profess his feelings for her. He knew just the right thing to say; Sutton was a tiny fling in Los Angeles, and Emma is real. Emma feels the same way. Uh oh, Whitehorse! Raise your game, kid.
Speaking of Ethan, Sutton waited back at his trailer in order to finally try some truthfulness. Basically, she rehashed the cabin situation and their relationship before Emma even “existed.” She loves Ethan! “Go home Sutton.”
Rebecca was the last person to visit Alec this episode, masking her concern once he admitted to switching lawyers. Look out, Theresa!
Meanwhile, Laurel and Emma comforted an apologetic Kristin, who seemed entirely through with her marriage. Like a drunken ghost, a drenched Mads meandered through the backyard shrubbery. After being spotted by Kristin, Mads decided to take her up on her offer to move in.

The episode closed with Rebecca hearing a knock at the door. Assuming it was Ted, she primped and shooed Sutton to the wayside. Unfortunately, it was only her son… Jordan! The twins have a half-brother!
What did you all think of the Season 2 premiere of The Lying Game? Are you excited for Mads to join the Mercer den of ladies now that Ted is basically excommunicated? How are you enjoying Rebecca? Do you sympathize with Sutton at all? Team Thayer or Team Whitehorse? Are you feeling Jordan? Is Alec a murderer? What the hell is Char up to in Florida? This trial drove everyone to drink!
