The Lying Game - Dead Man Talking - Recap

The Lying Game started off slow this week focusing more on Laurel's singing ambitions and kick ass violin then the mystery. The second half of the episode picked up in a way I didn't expect for a teen show on ABC Family. I was shocked.

After noticing that Derek has a snake tattoo on his wrist, the gang believe he may have been the one who attacked Sutton. Surprisingly, after confronting him in a garage, Derek admits to being the one in the back of Sutton's car. He claims he was only supposed to bring Sutton to see someone. Before Ethan and Sutton can get anything else out of him, like who made him do it, Derek tries to nail Ethan with a tire iron. Ethan clocks him in the face and he and Sutton book it.

The next day, the group is shocked to learn that Derek has been beaten to death in a parking lot somewhere. That's right. Derek is KILLED. What the hell?? Ethan is the prime suspect in the murder and Dan is heartbroken that because of his record and the fact that Sutton is his only alibi, his brother is probably screwed. He begs Ethan to take some money and get out of town. Ethan realizes if they can't find the real murderer, he may never see his brother again. Awww. Before Ethan can get Emma and Sutton to switch back so they can leave together, the cops grab Emma for questioning and Ethan is forced to leave with Sutton.
