The Legend of Korra - Episode 3 - The Revelation - Review

Korra trains at the gym early in the morning with Bolin and Mako since they are the rookies in the pro bending league.

"The morning is evil," says Korra.

Butakha the owner of the arena arrives to give the team their earnings. However, he takes money back for fees and expenses (like groceries for Bolin) - and they end up with nothing. To top it off, he says they need to contribute 30,000 yuans for the championship pot or they are out of the tournament.

Bolin decides to raise money by having Pabu do circus tricks at the city square.

OMG I love Pabu the fire ferret! I want one!

Shady Shin arrives with an offer for Bolin. He says Lightning Bolt Zolt of the Triple Threat Triad is hiring some extra muscle. Shin hands him a lot of money, and Bolin accepts!

At the end of the day, Mako comes home after finding some work at the power plant (electricity bending). Bolin is nowhere, so Mako decides to go to Air Temple Island thinking that his brother visited Korra.

Korra is in the middle of airbending practice when Mako arrives. The kids tease Korra about Mako! LOL Mako and Korra then look for Bolin in the city -- on board Naga, Korra's polar bear dog.

After bribing Skoochy one of the street kids, they discover that there seems to be a turf war involving the Triple Threat Triad later at night.

They go to the Triple Threat headquarters as Naga tracks Pabu. Yay! The headquarters had been ransacked and thugs from the Equalists have taken Bolin captive. They drive off in a van and motorcycles. Mako and Korra chase after them with Naga.

Two thugs entangle Naga then fight Mako and Korra. They are good in martial arts! No bending needed! It turns out that they are Chi blockers -- and Mako and Korra lose their bending ability after getting touched at different "points" on their body (like acupuncture). Naga and Pabu then scare the thugs away.

To find clues to where the Equalists have taken Bolin, Korra goes to the park to talk to a protester she met when she first arrived at Republic City.

While waiting, she asks Mako about his family and why Bolin would work for the Triple Threat. He tells her that he and Bolin were orphaned when they were kids. His parents were mugged by a firebender.

"He cut them down right in front of me. I was 8," he says.

He said that they only worked for the Triple Threat when they were younger in order to survive.

They fall asleep in the park and in the morning share an awkward moment waking up! Yay!

The protester is there already, and they confront him. He's been distributing flyers about "The Revelation". Mako picks up some flyers and later discover that there's a map to the location of the meeting at the back.

They head for the Equalist meeting in plain clothes.

There are a lot of people.

Amon, the leader, arrives. He tells them that he wears a mask because a firebender attacked him and his family when he was young. Then he makes an announcement (the "revelation"): He now has the power to take away a person's bending power permanently.

The Triple Threat Triad with its leader Zolt and Bolin are presented on stage.

Zolt fights Amon with his firebending/electricity bending. But Amon defeats him and his firebending is taken from him forever.

Meanwhile, Mako and Korra plan to free Bolin. Korra creates a diversion with steam while Mako gets Bolin.

"Bolin are you alright?" says Mako as he wrestles away a thug from Bolin.

"Yes, Mako, I love you!" Ha!

Mako and Bolin escape from the building but are stopped by an Equalist with electric sticks. Korra arrives and beats the thug. They all escape on board Naga.

Amon's thugs chase after them but he tells them to stop.

"Let her go. She's the perfect messenger to tell the city of my power," he says.

Back at Air Temple Island, Korra tells Tenzin about Amon's power.

"That's impossible. Only the Avatar has ever possessed that ability," he says.

"But I saw him do it," Korra answers.

"The revolution is more dangerous than ever. No bender is safe."

Omigosh, the storyline of this show is really serious. I'm very curious to learn more about the backstory of Amon. It really feels like Korra and the benders have a huge disadvantage. Not only don't they know the extent of the powers of their enemies, it looks like the public doesn't have a good perception of bending as well since some of them use their powers for crime (like the Triple Threat). Amon is definitely a more sinister villain than what we had in the first series.

I love this show! Long live the Avatar!
