'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay' to be split into two movies

By Rickey ·

Lionsgate announced that Mockingjay, the third book in The Hunger Games trilogy will be released as two movies. Part 1 will be released on Nov. 21, 2014 and Part 2 on Nov. 20, 2015.

This follows the trend in splitting a book into two -- to maximize profits and tell more of the story.

Warner Bros. released Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 2012 and 2011. Summit released The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn in 2011 and 2012.

HBO is planning to air the third book in A Song of Fire and Ice, A Storm of Swords, over two seasons of Game of Thrones starting next year.
