'The Exorcist' TV series in the works

With the 40th anniversary of The Exorcist comes an unexpected resurrection: this time, on the small-screen.

Deadline reports that the major TV networks are looking into a TV adaptation of William Friedkin's Oscar-nominated 1973 horror classic, based on William Peter Blatty's best-selling novel. Morgan Creek Productions has the rights to the franchise and is shopping around a potential series, written by up-and-coming feature writer Jeremy Slater (the scribe behind the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot).

There is reportedly interest in the series from both broadcast and cable networks, which could indicate a potential bidding war for the series. With shows like Hannibal, American Horror Story and Bates Motel burning up the airwaves, along with FOX's Sleepy Hollow series this fall, "dark" is definitely in. Roy Lee, executive producer of The Departed and The Ring, is on-board as executive producer.

On which network would an Exorcist series best fit? Would you watch an ongoing drama series based on the film/book? Sound off in the comments!
