The Event - Loyalty - Recap

The best thing about this episode for me, was the lack of Sean and Leila. I know they're our heroes and everything but I've been kind of sick of them for awhile. We did get a good chunk of mystery from them this week though.

Leila is on the warpath after Sean fills her in on everything that has happened to her family while she's been away. She tries to question Vicky's partner on the whereabouts of her sister but when he fails to divulge anything, she and Sean head to her house to look for clues about her father. They discover that Leila's dad knew more than they realized. For years he's known about the prisoners in Alaska and the government cover up and that was the problem. They meet a conspiracy theorist who lets them know her father knew too much and that's why he was taken.

The FBI continues to track Sophia on her way to see Thomas and Simon has to intervene. He throws them off her trail but at a price; his identity as a traitor has been discovered. He shoves the guy who knows in a trunk and high tails it out of there. We then get a flashback of Simon's life after the crash and I have to say, it's my favorite flashback so far on the series. It's like they're finally doing it right. I think I fell in love with Simon a little bit tonight. What a fantastic actor. His story of falling in love in the 50's only to have Thomas force him to leave her behind (ya know, the whole not aging thing) was heartbreaking.

Never allowed to stay in one place for too long, Simon has been forced to move around while still trying to help his people get home. As I watch this, I'm starting to get paranoid. It's a bit too much like Shannon on Lost at this point. I'm starting to notice that the reason there's not much Sean and Leila in this episode is because they're focusing so much on Simon and his story. And it's a beautiful story. So naturally, I'm paranoid they'll kill him off in the end. When he runs into the building Thomas and Sophia are hiding out in to try and warn them, all I want him to do is save himself. Thomas tells him he had no choice to do what he's about to do.

Then the building starts to crumble. And not just a little crumble, but like..massive chunks crumbling until there's nothing left. Then the ground opens up to reveal a giant blue..portal? What the hell?? Is that where Thomas and Sophia went? Did they travel through time? What the hell?? Simon tries to get his fellow FBI buddies out of the building in time but is struck and left to be covered in the few giant remains of the building that remain. It's a powerful scene and I really love/d Simon. I hope he pulls some alien voodoo and makes it out alive. The scene of his first love as an old woman with Alzheimer's recognizing him made me cry like a baby.

What do you guys think is going on??
