With the release of "Iron Man 3" this summer, Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins, resulting in a series of Marvel Studios properties (such as sequels to "Thor" and "Captain America") that will culminate in the already hotly-anticipated "The Avengers 2."
Now comes the news that the sequel to last summer's mega-blockbuster is officially set to begin production in early 2014 at England's Pinewood-Shepperton Studios, targeting a 2015 release date.
The famed Pinewood-Shepperton Studios is pretty much the home for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as of late: "Thor: The Dark World" recently finished filming there, while the forthcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy" is set to begin filming in the world-famous studio later this year.
"The Avengers 2" is rumored to tie directly into "Guardians of the Galaxy", with Thanos, who appeared briefly at the end of "The Avengers", as the potential villain of the film.
The sequel will reunite writer-director Joss Whedon with the original's all-star cast, including Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans.
