The Amazing Race - Season 22 Episode 10 - "Working Our Barrels Off" - Recap
The remaining five teams race from Berlin, Germany to Edinburgh, Scotland. They're finally back in an English-speaking country! Season 22 of The Amazing Race is winding down; check out my recap here.
Max and Katie leave in first place, followed by Joey and Meghan, Caroline and Jennifer, Bates and Anthony, and Mona and Beth. They're flying to Edinburgh, Scotland! They then drive to Gosford House.
For some reason, Joey and Meghan aren't allowed to U-Turn. There's a pact to U-Turn Joey and Meghan and Mona and Beth. Those two teams find a flight for 1 p.m., and Caroline and Jennifer and Bates and Anthony get one for 4 p.m…. but then they find the 10:40 a.m. flight. Ooooh crap, Joey and Meghan and Mona and Beth think they're on the first flight, but they're not! Max and Katie get on the first flight.
Roadblock
One team member must learn how to play the bagpipes! That's pretty cool. Max zooms through the Roadblock. Caroline cries when she can't blow the bagpipes correctly, and it takes her seven attempts to get it right. Her lips must feel like they're falling off by that time. "Maybe his saliva will give me superpowers," Meghan says. Meghan somehow gets it on her first try.Their next clue is at Craigmillar Castle.
Detour
Tasty Puddin': Teams must make sausages called Haggis out of ox intestines and other organs. They must finish four portions and try some for themselves.
Whiskey Rollin': Teams must roll eight whiskey barrels 200 yards. Each barrels is about 100 pounds each.
Bates and Anthony decide to carry the barrels on their backs. Damn, that looks exhausting. And… then they roll them when they realize how tough it is. That's much better. They get their barrels rolled in not too much time.Max and Katie go to the Sheep Heid Inn for the Tasty Puddin' task. Robert Burns, the 18th century poet, recites a poem about sausages to them. Max and Katie successfully roll their Haggis and think it's delicious.
Yum, ox intenstines.
"I blew something hard all day, now let's just eat it," Caroline says. Tasty Puddin' it is!
Duddingston Kirk is the location of their next clue, and there's a double U-Turn there. Bates and Anthony decide to U-Turn Joey and Meghan. Oh, come on! Max and Katie then U-Turn Mona and Beth.
Speedbump
Because Mona and Beth came in last place in the last leg, they have to finish a Speedbump before continuing. They must play Skittles, a Scottish version of 10-pin bowling. The bowling ball has no holes, but it's pretty much the same as American bowling. Yes, I love bowling! And Skittles too, yum, especially the sour ones. Their goal is to get a strike, and they finally get it after 16 tries. This Speedbump seems a lot more difficult from Speedbumps past.Beth is not a fan of Skittles.
Detour, cont.
Because of the Speedbump, the remaining two teams get to the detour at the same time. They both elect to go with the Haggis task. "Sorry Scotland," Beth says after she takes a bite. "It was awful." Mona and Beth zoom through the detour, and they find out that they were U-Turned, so they must complete the other task.Joey and Meghan finally finish the detour as Mona and Beth roll their first two barrels, so the roller derby moms are a bit ahead.
Mona and Beth go into beast mode and obliterate the task despite being exhausted while smelling like a combination of Haggis and sweat. They finish the task as Joey and Meghan have rolled six out of eight barrels.
Pit Stop
Niddry Street South is the location of the pit stop. Jekyll and Hyde greets them at the pit stop. Max and Katie end up in first place. Ugh. They win $10,000 each. Bates and Anthony come a couple minutes after, and Caroline and Jennifer take third. Mona and Beth barely beat out Joey and Meghan for fourth place. Joey and Meghan have been eliminated. Here's the final order of elimination.- Max and Katie
- Bates and Anthony
- Caroline and Jennifer
- Mona and Beth
- Joey and Meghan
