Protestors in Thailand Have Appropriated the 'Hunger Games' Salute - PHOTOS
The District 12 salute from The Hunger Games is now being used by protestors in Thailand as an act of defiance against the military, who recently took over the civilian run government.
The three-fingered salute was originally meant as a sign of respect and thanks, but because of its use by Katniss it eventually morphs into a symbol of the revolution.
Much like Katniss herself who takes on the moniker of the Mockingjay.

In Thailand, the symbol has taken on a similar meaning of protest and rebellion, which the government has perceived as a threat.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, flash mobs in Bangkok are using the salute and the military has warned that anyone who does not lower their arms when ordered will be arrested.
The military took power on May 22, instituting a national curfew (originally set at 10 PM and then moved to midnight) and banned public gatherings of five or more people.
Thai protest groups say that to them the symbol means "freedom, equality, and brotherhood."
