Teen Wolf - Recap: All Wolves Go to Heaven
MTV’s hit Teen Wolf continued to claw its way through Season 3 tonight with an episode that saw one of Scott’s pack mates put to sleep. Thankfully, all dogs go to heaven. That includes werewolves, right?
The episode opened with poor Melissa McCall (Melissa Ponzio) dealing with a ten-car pile up. Where was the head doctor? Just busy, we’d guess. With an emergency room full of bruised and battered patients, the on-call replacement doctor found herself stuck in traffic. Did anyone else get a chuckle when she called in to inform Melissa that she’d be ten minutes late due to “some accident”? Clue in, lady. Unfortunately, she’d never get the chance to. After cruelly swatting away a moth with her windshield wipers, the inside of her automobile became flooded with a swarm of the bug’s angry friends. Good for them, I say. Teamwork, moths! Meanwhile, Ethan (Charlie Carver) dragged a down-and-out Danny (Keahu Kahuanui) into the hospital. No, the boy wasn’t a victim of the accident. Instead, he’d somehow ingested copious amounts of *gulp* mistletoe. Ethan’s boo would have died, had Melissa McCall not performed a secret emergency procedure to cure his collapsed lung. All in a days work, wolves. Scott’s pride in his mother’s heroic actions was quickly set on the back burner, as he and Ethan discovered the on-call doctor’s SUV rolling into the parking lot, driverless. The scene had “sacrifice” written all over it. In fact, it was enough to prompt Scott and Isaac (Daniel Sharman) to sneak into Ms. McCall’s room at night for protection.

Was Melissa truly considered a healer? I’d go with a safe “surely she'd do,” although Scott wouldn’t have any need to worry any longer. It wasn’t his mother who was being targeted. It was Dr. Deaton, Scott’s boss and mentor. A quick plea to Scott for help came too late, and our Teen Wolf arrived at the vet’s office only in time to find Stiles’ father (Linden Ashby) investigating the disappearance. From within the privacy of the back room, Scott pleaded with Stiles to consider cluing his father into the supernatural occurrences surrounding Beacon Hills. Seriously, the man is losing his mind attempting to solve these crimes on his own. Stiles, at this point, has to have reasoned that his father was safer in the know as opposed to in the dark. He assured Scott that he would handle the situation himself, but first, the duo had a vet to find. Luckily, Deaton’s sister, Ms. Morell (Bianca Lawson), showed up at the scene of the crime, desperate to help the boys. She tipped them off to their strongest tool, the supernatural equivalent of a metal detector… Lydia.
Our favorite ginger was busy getting "busy" with Aiden (Max Carver) in what I’d assumed was a school janitor’s closet, only to have her sexy session interrupted by a fire alarm. No, it wasn’t a looming inferno. Instead, it was a nasty she-wolf! Cora Hale (Adelaide Kane) found it appropriate to clear the entire school building, Aiden included, in order to simply inform Lydia that Derek requested that she stop seeing the were-twin. Cora was on the brink of violence when Stiles stepped in to intervene. Just like that, we have a trio! Wouldn’t a text or, at least, a nasty voicemail from Derek have sufficed? Was Cora’s attack really necessary? I mean, at least wait until lunch.

Stiles, Ouija Board in tow, attempted to draw the psychic power from Lydia in order to locate Deaton before the sacrifice could be completed. Melissa McCall had managed to deduce the method of killing; affixation due to hanging… by the wrists. You see, as in with crucifixions, one can only breath for so long while hanging like that before the strength required to hold one’s own body up is lost. Lydia was on a tight time frame, but as it turned out, Stiles was out of luck. The girl’s powers don’t activate on cue, Stilinski. Unless, of course, Peter is there to call the shots. Unfortunately *ugh*, no Peter Hale this week, pack. I know, I know. We’ll make it through. While Lydia attempted everything from automatic writing to conjuring a premonition, Scott found himself squaring off with Deucalion (Gideon Emery), who arrived in the music room just in time to toy with the Teen Wolf. The two sparred, but in actuality, it seemed as though the self-proclaimed “Demon Wolf” was merely scoping things out. He left just after handing Scott a valuable piece of information… think “currents.” Luckily, Scott and Lydia came to the same realization. I mean, Lydia’s always right. Had Scott had a different plan, it would have been wrong. The answer would be in Danny.
In truth, Danny was no target of the Darach sacrifices, but he was, indeed, a target. What did Danny know? Stiles cleverly snuck into the boy’s hospital room while he rested, sedated. The most hilarious scene during Episode 7 was obviously Stiles’ manipulation of Danny’s “dream” state as Danny waned in and out of consciousness. Stiles managed to scrounge up a clue, a paper Danny had written on underground geo currents; currents that could be altered by the phases of the moon. Meanwhile, Allison managed to uncover a bit of her own information that fell in line with Danny’s work. Her father had been secretly mapping the sacrifices, even doing enough research required to predict the locations of future deaths. Of course, this scene between Scott and Allison was more so important because the two shared a super intimate moment in her purse closet. After hiding from her father (JR Bourne), the two found themselves in such close contact that Scott, ahem… #SomethingCameUp!

Back at Deaton’s office, Stiles, Scott, Lydia, and Cora attempted to decode Danny’s work. It became increasingly clearer that Mr. Harris had known something about this Darach’s work, as he seemed to steer Danny away from the subject matter in notes on the essay. See, not to knock Danny, but it would have been more plausible to think that Lydia or even Stiles would have drummed up that paper idea. Am I right? That was some heavy pseudo-physics subject matter! I’m not sure there was any rhyme or reason to it, but Cora seemed to instantaneously realize that Deaton was being kept in the vault. The magic of television, pack! Unfortunately, the group would need to split up, as Derek had found himself in some serious trouble of his own.
The alpha had become privy to a looming attack from Deucalion’s pack. Of course, they held Hale to blame for the death of Ennis, when in actuality, it was Deucalion himself who’d done the dastardly deed of killing one of his own. Derek became aware of the upcoming hit via a giant swastika-like evil werewolf symbol painted on his loft window. Seriously, they couldn’t concoct their own evil werewolf symbol of hate? Boyd (Sinqua Walls) and Isaac attempted to help Derek prep for the onslaught from a much more powerful set of wolves by cleverly (or not) flooding the loft floor with a ton of water. Boyd had thought up a scheme involving running a series of electrical currents through the massive puddle, frying old claw-foot the moment she stepped into the room. Oops, Boyd! The alpha pack seemed to have uncovered Derek’s plan before things even got started, as they cut the power, setting the stage for a dimly lit brawl to the death.

Kali arrived with the twins in tow, and the trio had Derek’s budding new love interest, Jennifer (Haley Webb) in their evil clutches. Honestly, shouldn’t Aiden and Ethan have been worried about holding their teacher hostage? They could get, like, lunch detention for that. The brutal match between Derek and Kali would have to be a one-on-one brawl if it meant saving Jennifer from a death by ripping to bloody shreds. In my opinion, Scott venturing to the vault while Stiles and the ladies headed to Derek’s loft was a bit of a mistake. Why couldn’t Lydia and Stiles handle the vault situation, knowing very well that the bank was protected by all kinds of anti-werewolf tricks and treats.

Scott managed to find Deaton in the nick of time. Unfortunately, the vet was protected by a ring of that horrible werewolf-repelling dust. Scott tried with all of his might to break the barrier, even bringing out the alpha in his eyes just prior to being zapped away by the force field. Luckily, Sherriff Stilinski arrived just prior to the man’s death, sharp shooting the rope restraints and freeing Deaton. As Stilinski called in an ambulance, Deaton informed Scott of something very important. In very rare occurrences, a mere beta Teen Wolf like Scott McCall can evolve into an alpha simply by being pure of heart. Character, my friends! Character, he says! Scott may become… the True Alpha!
While chaos ensued, both Allison and her father paid old Season 2 baddie, Grandpa Gerard, a visit. How do they kill Deucalion the Demon Wolf? They can’t! Thanks, Grandpa! You’re still the worst!

Episode 7 of Season 3 of Teen Wolf closed with a most upsetting scene. While Stiles and the ladies managed to restore the electricity, frying anyone touching the water in the process, Kali would still get the last laugh. As the twins held a weakened Derek in position, the ridiculously heinous she-wolf heaved Boyd onto his claws. My initial thought surrounded the motives of these twins. Can they honestly be as incredibly normal as teenager Scott and his peers one moment, only to help murder one of their classmates the next? I don’t understand, but, alas, we bid farewell to Boyd this week. I’ll be honest, I had to rewind Boyd’s fond farewell to Derek a few times with the volume cranked up several notches with each go. Speak up, Boyd. This is it for you! Boyd recalled something Erica (Gage Golightly) had pondered about just prior to her death in the vault. What would a lunar eclipse mean for the pack? Would they become stronger? Kali didn’t like that train of thought, eliminating Erica for daring to dream. Aah, finally, Erica had a redeeming death scene. “She died” just wasn’t cutting it for me. Goodbye, Boyd. Remember, all wolves go to heaven. At least, I think. Good luck?
What did you think of Teen Wolf Season 3 Episode 7, “Currents”? Were you happy to see Erica get a decent sendoff, or were you more concerned with the murder of Boyd? What does this mean for Derek? What are your feelings regarding the twins? What the hell is Lydia? Are Scott and Allison making a comeback, or are you still hoping she and Isaac get things started? Is Deucalion unstoppable, or will Darach’s sacrifices play a role in his downfall? What or who is Darach? (Morell? Peter? Jennifer? Deucalion?)
