'Teen Titans' Live-Action Pilot to Shoot in 2015

The live-action Teen Titans series being developed by TNT will further expand DC's stranglehold on genre TV, between the success of Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, and upcoming series such as Syfy's Krypton. But it looks like we might be getting that Teen Titans series sooner than we might have hoped.

On Twitter, DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns assured fans that while it's been relatively quiet on the news front as of late, the series is still in development, and farther along than we realize.

The series will be written by Marc Haimes (The Last Word) and Akiva Goldsman (who won an Oscar for writing A Beautiful Mind, although he's unfortunately likely to be best known as the screenwriter behind the cinematic abomination known as Batman & Robin). The story will tell the tale of Robin himself, Dick Grayson, and how he "emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven and many others."

While the Teen Titans have been around for 50 years now, this will be their first big live-action appearance. However, most casual audiences probably know of them from the Cartoon Network animated series Young Justice and Teen Titans Go!. If the show can capture the fun, adventurous spirit of those animated shows, I think we might have something special here. No casting news just yet, but here's hoping they don't cast too old for this, lest we end up with "Teen Titans" in their mid-30s.
