Is Taylor Swift Making A Rock Album?

Taylor Swift is known for dipping into a variety of genres for her various music releases. Starting off in the world of country, she migrated to pop and even included some dubstep on one of her singles from 2012/13, 'I Knew You Were Trouble'. Now writing and recording her fifth album, there are some rumors that she's looking to make rock music.

According to Alloy Entertainment's Gossip Girl blog, a forum member was sent a survey that asked what radio stations they'd expect to hear Taylor Swift on, as well as asking what they thought of her alongside various rock bands and musicians, and more about how they viewed her and what they thought of her recent music. This screams label market research, and indicates that Taylor has been moving towards a rock vein in what she is producing for this fifth record, and Big Machine are putting out feelers to see how the audience will react.

Personally I think it'd be nice to hear her doing actual rock, maybe folk rock, because the pop stuff has gotten annoying. It may also mean she'll be writing lyrics that are less about boys and more mature generally. But if it's an excuse to go a bit Avril Lavigne-ish on us then I'm not so keen, and I also don't know if her voice will hold up to rock as a genre. After all, she struggled with country if we remember.

Only time will tell, but I suspect we'll get to hear the first single in mid-late Summer, so not long to wait now.
