Lois Lowry's The Giver has been one of the best-loved children's novels of all-time, and now its film adaptation is moving forward in a big way.
Variety reports that Taylor Swift has been cast in the upcoming film, joining a cast that already includes Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes, and Aleksander Skarsgard.
Swift will play Rosemary, the last teen mentored by The Giver (Jeff Bridges) before meeting Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) the newest youth to be chosen as "Receiver of Memory," the person responsible for storing all past memories from the time before the world reverted to emotional "Sameness." Her casting is not the only connection Swift has to the project, as the singer is rumored to be currently dating co-star Thwaites, with one source saying "Taylor won't stop talking about Brenton. She spends every waking minute she can talking about him."
The film, written by playwright Michael Mitnick and directed by Phillip Noyce (Salt, Clear and Present Danger), is scheduled to begin filming in Cape Town on Oct. 7, for release in theaters on Aug. 15, 2014.
