Taye Diggs joins 'New Girl'

Looks like Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) are going to have another obstacle to their romance -- an exceedingly handsome obstacle.

Private Practice alum Taye Diggs is joining New Girl as a "potential romantic distraction" for Zooey Deschanel's title character, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Diggs will appear in the seventh episode of the third season. In this one-off appearance, Diggs will play Artie, a "smooth, confident ladies' man" with his eyes set on Jess. The episode in question also sees the return of Happy Endings star Damon Wayans Jr., who had originally appeared as Coach in the pilot for the FOX comedy.

New Girl airs Tuesdays at 9:00 PM on FOX.
