Taufik Batisah - International Spotlight - 07/11/10

Taufik Batisah is Singaporean of mixed Indian and Bugis decent. 24 at the time of the show, he is the youngest of 3 sons to separated parents. Taufik earned a degree of Marine Engineering but could not stray too far away from his true passion of Singing. He performed in many school and local talent competitions and later formed a band, Bonafide, and it wasn't too long before their local fame was on the rise. He auditioned for the inaugural season of Singapore Idol, originally intending to gain attention for his band.

After his audition, in an apparent misrepresentation, Taufik was originally called "“cocky and arrogant” by the judges. However, he was let through anyway, and week after week he continued to prove himself both to judges and audiences a like. Sometimes vocally, Taufik leaves me feeling like something is missing---which I think it probably my lemming desire for a unique tone---but when you look at him perform, that all kind of gets pushed aside and becomes secondary. I believe it's called....the 'It' factor? Whatever it is, he has it. Seeing a good male R&B artist on the Idol stage is also something very rare for us in the States. He's a good dancer, too.

Anyway, enough chitchat, here are some of his performances:

My only complaint is the unfortunate low quality of some of the videos. :(

Taufik won the inaugural season of Singapore Idol and continues to impress with his songs and performances.
