'Switched at Birth' Renewed for a Fourth Season

ABC Family is bringing back one of its most acclaimed series.

Switched at Birth has been renewed for a fourth season, just one week before its third season finale is set to air. The Peabody Award-winning drama is currently the No. 1 series on cable in its time period among the key female demographics, making this pickup a virtual no-brainer. For the uninitiated, Switched at Birth is all there in the title: the story follows two teenage girls who discover they were accidentally switched in the hospital as newborns, which is something I'm actually kind of surprised to learn doesn't happen more often. I can't tell babies apart to save my life.

“Fans will be clamoring for season four and to know what happens with Daphne and Bay after the season three finale next week,” said Tom Ascheim, President ABC Family.

If the show continues its usual pattern, I would expect the new season of Switched at Birth to premiere in early 2015.
