Switched at Birth - The Homecoming - Summer Finale Recap

Bay is presenting at a school art show and notices a beautiful man admiring her work. She strikes up a conversation with him thinking he's a gallery owner in town. Bay gets a shock when the man comments on her wearing his lucky guitar pick on her bracelet. Bay's biological father Angelo (guest star Gilles Marini) has found out about the girls and has come to see her. Bay is shocked at first and doesn't know how to handle the situation. Whether she should be angry or sad or happy that he's returned. She doesn't tell Daphne or her parents about him because she's dealing with some additional drama.

Daphne finds out that Emmett and Bay have been dating and boy is she pissed. She's not taking it well and explodes at Emmett for betraying her and dating a hearing girl. Oh the hypocrisy. Daphne confesses that she has been thinking about having feelings for Emmett and he's stunned. He blows up at her for just now telling him this now that he is with Bay. He's been crushing on her for 8 years and she wasn't interested. Daphne kisses him and while its a good kiss, Emmett backs away and says no to the whole situation. Good for you man.

Bay has dinner with Angelo and agrees to quietly get to know him. He found out about the switch in the newspaper and was shocked. At this point I can't quite tell if I should be iffy on this guy or not. I'm actually kind of rooting for him because he's charming and if he was just in it for the money or something I'd be pretty sad. Why didn't he come back before then? Bay invites him over to the house to break the news to her parents and Bay's dad is pissed that he ambushed Bay the way that he did. Daphne's upset and angry and doesn't even want to look at him.

Angelo talks to Regina to try and plead his case. From what I gathered, he tried to make contact after everything and suggested that Regina was the one who pushed him out. Ehh I dunno dude. No one forced you to leave. Angelo tries to win over John by revealing that he has evidence that would help them win the lawsuit with the hospital. Still sketchy. Is he legit? Their lawyer seems suspicious and doesn't trust the source of his evidence. Does he just want the money? He's offering to share it with Regina who really needs it. She tries to get a loan so she can open up her own salon but isn't successful. She would need someone to cosign the loan with her. I'm thinking she'll ask Bay's parents next season.

Toby and Wilke need Emmett for a music festival they want to perform at but he's not interested. He's just not comfortable around that many hearing people. After his fight with Daphne, he starts to doubt his relationship with Bay and begins picking fights with her over little things. When he can't follow a conversation with her and her brother, he breaks down and tells her it's too hard. It's so sad. Bay is convinced he's acting this way because Daphne told him how she felt. Toby confronts Emmett about how he's treating his sister and it's such a cute moment. It's subtle but I thought it was adorable how Toby defended Bay and called her his sister.

And then. This happened.

Emmett finds Bay to apologize for how he was acting. What follows is one of the best acted and most heart breaking scenes I've ever seen on television. Emmett tells Bay that it would be easier for him to just find a deaf version of Bay but he doesn't want to. His eyes are tearing up and he's signing how he feels.

Then he opens his mouth and SPEAKS. "I just want you." And then I started crying like a child. Seriously, it was pretty embarrassing for me. But this scene was just so well done. Sean Berdy was just amazing. I gasped and then I cried. Seriously, Sean. I want to hug and squeeze you right now.

Emmett drives off with Toby and Wilke to the festival and Daphne tells Bay that she won't be giving up on Emmett. Hold on, am I watching The Secret Life? When the hell did Daphne's character get so horrible. If you had told me 10 episodes ago that I would be in love with Emmett, love Bay and hate Daphne, I'd think you were nuts.

I can't wait for this show to come back. I hope we don't have to wait till January.
