Check out the recap for Switched At Birth – Season 2 Episode 1 – “The Door to Freedom”:
In the first season, Angelo (Gilles Marini) received $5 million dollars after he won the case against the hospital. John (D.W. Moffett) & Kathryn Kennish (Lea Thompson), on the other hand, won just $1. Angelo used some of this money to buy a car for himself, a food truck for Daphne (Katie Leclerc), and a variety of gifts for the other people in the family. We also found out that Regina (Constance Marie) decided not to take half of Angelo’s money. She could’ve easily taken $2.5 million dollars out of his pocket since they are legally married, but she chose not to. Angelo also wants to build a house with Regina on John & Kathryn’s golf course.

Later in the episode, some unexpected things happened to Bay (Vanessa Marano). Since Buckner Hall has an “anti-graffiti mandate,” one of the security guards at the school asked her to park her car in the back because the seahorse designs on her car were “offensive.” (Last season, she and Zarra (Tania Raymonde) painted seahorses on her car). Bay also scored a 94 on her French exam, bit her teacher accused her of cheating. The only way out of this situation was for her to attend an honor board. She brought Angelo to the honor board because she wanted to prove that Angelo has been teaching her French, and that she didn’t cheat off of somebody else’s exam. On top of that, Bay wants to enroll in the pilot program for hearing kids at Carlton School for the Deaf because she feels like an outcast at Buckner Hall. (She also wants to spend more time with Emmett (Sean Berdy) and Daphne).
Before Angelo and Regina married, Angelo had a one-night stand with a woman he had met on a plane…. and he unfortunately got her pregnant. This woman visited Angelo in his home, and Toby (Lucas Grabeel) walked in on them arguing about the baby. Toby swore not to tell anybody about this, but told Bay about it anyway. So far, only Toby and Bay know about the other woman’s baby.
Daphne has been texting Chef Jeff (Justin Bruening) a lot recently. She’s been on the lookout for another job, and she even asked Chef Jeff if she could use him as a reference. He told her that it wouldn’t be a good idea for her to do so because he’s currently on probation for having relations with her (Daphne’s still a minor). Jeff also asked her to stop texting him, and he completely cut off his friendship with Daphne. Melody (Marlee Matlin) also lectured Daphne about this situation… she told Daphne to wake up. Melody also mentioned that it could be extremely difficult for Daphne to get another job because of the fact that she is deaf.

Travis (Ryan Lane) is also in some trouble. His parents don’t know any ASL, and they think of Travis as a burden. They will be kicking him out of their home for good on his 18th birthday. His birthday is coming up in a few days, and he doesn’t know what to do, whom to go to, or where else to stay. (He’s actually been staying at John’s car washing business as of late).
At the end of the episode, Daphne decided to keep her food truck, and invited Travis over for dessert. He’s only been eating food out of the vending machine, so she treated him to some dessert. Bay also met up with Daphne & Travis inside the food truck.
