Switched at Birth - Season 2 Episode 13 - Recap - The Good Samaritan

This week's episode of ABC Family's Switched at Birth continues the saga of the Kennish and Vasquez families, and the extended web of interpersonal strife/joy caused by their daughters being switched in the hospital right after delivery.

Toby's wedding plans seem to be getting serious, as Bay encounters him preparing to sell a bunch of his music equipment on eBay. Toby also seems to be doing quite well with his new job as manager of the Kennish Car Wash. The stress seems to be getting to Toby, so Bay books his band a gig at her new workplace (the Maui, Kansas amusement park). The timing means that Toby and Nikki once again have to reschedule a wedding plan meeting with Nikki's reverend. The band's gig runs over time, which makes the pair late to their meeting, and then Nikki calls Toby out on not respecting her faith. She leaves alone, and Toby plays another song without her.

Off in Daphne-land, mysterious handsome British boy shows up again, having learned a great deal of signing (though Daphne is quick to point out his mistakes). He gets Daphne into geocaching, a kind of internet-based treasure hunt that involves people sharing coordinates where small gift boxes are hidden. They see one another a few times, they flirt, they go geocaching together, and they do a bit of smooching.  During all this sudden romance, Daphne is also clashing with her boss and birth father John over politics (he signs a bill supporting abstinence-only sex ed) and fighting with her mom Regina over the new living situation (Regina isn't pushing hard to find a job and move out of Angelo's apartment). The distraction of a summer fling is probably just what Daphne needs right now, but she leaves the date after kissing him. Bay and Daphne make amends, openly talking about the fighting they've been doing.

Each without their daughter living in the house, Kathryn and Adrianna start hanging out. Eventually, Kathryn snaps at the needy Adrianna, but immediately feels bad; this situation is stressful for everyone involved, and Adrianna could really use a pal. Kathryn makes amends, and the two have a bonding heart-to-heart over motherhood.

There's not a lot of movement on Angelo's or Bay's storylines this episode (though Angelo gets one brief moment where he learns about the rough reality of family life), but the presence of them is definitely felt through their influence on the other characters; Angelo's relationship with Regina is becoming strained, while Bay's living situation and meddling are giving Daphne and Toby stress, respectively. This was a slow episode, if you couldn't tell by the word count, and I'm hoping the drama and complexity picks back up again. Check out the preview of the episode below!
