Leading up to Episode 25, we’ve seen Daphne (Katie Leclerc) getting demoted to dishwashing duties, Regina (Constance Marie) marrying Angelo (Gilles Marini) so he could legally stay in the U.S., Bay (Vanessa Marano) sneaking off to the “bad parts of town” in order to express her creative side with her street art, and Lawyer Craig (Samuel Page) developing a crush on Kathryn (Lea Thompson).
This episode kicked off with Bay approaching a girl who shares her love of street art. (She was the one who finished Bay’s artwork in the previous episode.) Her name is Zarra.
At the MAIZE restaurant that Daphne works at, she was attempting put away two boxes that were filled with cupcakes on a shelf.... but the shelf unfortunately fell apart. The cupcakes were ruined. Chef Jeff (Justin Bruening) assured her that it wasn’t her fault, and that he should’ve replaced the shelf earlier. Then, Chef Jeff asked Daphne to stay overtime to re-bake the cupcakes.
The following scene took place at the Kennish’s house. John (D.W. Moffett) walked in on Angelo sweating heaps while running on a treadmill. John seemed a little uncomfortable with Angelo bearing his ripped biceps. This was just another feisty competition between the two fathers. John said to Angelo, “If you could remember to wipe everything down...okay?” Oh John, you’re just a little jealous of Angelo :P. [I wouldn’t blame John for being jealous. Angelo is H.O.T!!!]
Back at the ‘Maize’ restaurant, Jeff wondered whether Daphne would consider doing pastry. Also: he didn’t appreciate Daphne’s vegetarianism. Daphne stood her ground and said in return, “Have you ever been to a chicken farm? Because I have, and there’s nothing fun about it.” Chef Jeff later revealed that he graduated from M.I.T. university with an Engineering degree... but decided to pursue a career in the culinary field. Daphne has now developed a small crush on her boss after spending some time alone with him in the kitchen.
At the Kennish’s house, Angelo tried his best to make small talk with Toby (Lucas Grabeel). Inside the common area, Kathryn was doing her best to make small talk with Lawyer Craig. (She felt a little uncomfortable being alone with him, since he tried to kiss her in an earlier episode.)
John received a call from the Dean of Buckner Hall (Bay and Toby’s high school). The dean added Bay to the Academic Probation list for failing to complete her homework on time (on a consistent basis). John grounded Bay saying, “No homework, no leave [home].”
The following day, Daphne came into work early to spend more time with Chef Jeff (but he didn’t reciprocate any romantic feelings for Daphne). He actually walked away from Daphne because he got distracted by an older, more mature lady named Vivian. (Vivian usually brings produce over to the restaurant.) Major jealousy arose from Daphne thereafter.
Daphne asked Bay if she could borrow one of her shirts (a fancier, sexier-looking shirt—one that Daphne wouldn’t normally wear) in an effort to impress Chef Jeff. She also applied more make-up to see if she can get Chef Jeff to notice her.
Regina and Kathryn were invited to a television interview to talk about their family situation. The interviewer was quite rude and ignorant. She asked all of the wrong questions, and definitely conducted the interview poorly. Regina and Kathryn couldn’t get a word in because the interviewer was yapping for the duration of the interview. (Some people just love to hear themselves talk *sarcasm*.)
Back at the house, Angelo spent quality father-daughter time with Bay. Since Bay has been behind on her French homework, Angelo assisted her with her French homework. They also watched a French movie together.
Back at the restaurant, Daphne introduced Chef Jeff to Regina, Kathryn, and Melody (Marlee Matlin). Melody and Chef Jeff were instantly attracted to each other. Chef Jeff wasn’t aware of the ‘switched at birth’ situation, so he assumed that Regina and Kathryn were a couple.
Bay received a text from Zarra. None of Bay’s family were aware of her friendship with Zarra. If they found out about Bay and Zarra’s new friendship, the Kennish’s and the Vasquez’ would definitely not approve of it. Later, Bay asked Angelo to cover for her—she didn’t tell him who she’d be meeting but she did say that she would be back within an hour. Bay persuaded him by saying, “You’re my dad too. You should have a say in what I do. It won’t be more than an hour.”
At the ‘Maize’ restaurant, Regina, Kathryn, and Melody stayed for dinner. Melody flirted big time with Chef Jeff, “You can amuse my mouth anytime!”
Bay failed to keep her promise. She stayed out hours longer than she was supposed to. Angelo and John got into a heated argument.
John: “Where’s Bay?”
Angelo: “I... I don’t know.”
John: “What do you mean you don’t know?”
Angelo: “She promised me she would be back within an hour!”
John: “Let me explain something to you! You are not her friend, you’re her father! .... You’re her father.”
Bay finally came back home. Her two fathers were waiting for her by the stairwell. Angelo and John lectured her:
Angelo: “Thank god you’re okay!”
John: “Why do you think we turned our lives upside down? So that this man (Angelo) can be in your life. You treated him like a convenient alibi! He deserves more than that.”
The next scene took place in the hospital where Regina gave birth to Bay and where Kathryn gave birth to Daphne. They took a trip down memory lane and checked out the infants sleeping in the hospital. Regina said to Kathryn, “They all do look alike.” Kathryn agreed. Also: they ran into a familiar-looking employee at the hospital—Kathryn recognized her, but Regina didn’t.
Chef Jeff gave Daphne a promotion! She is now in charge of the salad station. She was so ecstatic about her promotion that she gave Chef Jeff a hug, applied more lipstick, and preened herself. Chef Jeff politely rejected her.
Later, Emmett (Sean Berdy) dropped by the park where Daphne was at. He came by to console her. Insecure with her physical appearance, Daphne asked Emmett if he ever had romantic feelings for her. He admitted to being in love with her long before him and Bay got together. He then added, “You just have really bad timing.” Daphne agreed.
Kathryn dug through Angelo’s storage bin and found old photos of him and his ex-fiancee. It turns out the employee from the hospital was the same woman in Angelo’s old photos. Kathryn called Lawyer Craig to inform him that she’s discovered Angelo’s “source” from the hospital.
John received a call from work saying that someone “trashed and graffiti’ed” his car wash company. It was actually Bay who “trashed” the walls at the car wash. (She painted her street art on the walls, but didn’t reveal this to John because he just doesn’t approve of street art.)
Chef Jeff and Melody slept together! OMG! Emmett came home right when Chef Jeff took off! They eyed each other; however, at this point, Emmett isn’t aware that THAT MAN is Daphne’s boss. I think there will be outcries and confrontations in the following episode concerning Chef Jeff & Melody’s secret affair.
The next episode airs Monday, 9/24, at 8pm ET on ABC Family.
