'Survivor: San Juan del Sur': Two Contestants Exit Pre-Game Due to Medical Reasons

Filming has begun in Nicaragua for Survivor: San Juan del Sur, the 29th season of the hit reality competition series. But complications have already arisen, as host Jeff Probst has confirmed that two contestants were forced to leave the show just 48 hours before the competition began due to medical reasons.

"We just lost two contestants [Friday]," Probst revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly’s Dalton Ross. "We came out here with 20. We spend months casting our show — months. I mean, this is like ... who you’re gonna ask to prom. All year you’re like, ‘Is it her or her?’ and ‘Will she say yes?’ And you finally get your 20 people, and then through no fault of their own — just a medical situation — they can’t play…. So instead of 20, it puts us at 18. Instead of equal men and women, it puts us uneven men and women."

Of course, the season must continue, although this leaves one wondering if the Blood vs. Water twist will remain in effect, since these medical evacuations will leave two castaways without loved ones -- unless the two people evacuated were a contestant and his/her loved one. Either way, he have a hell of a season ahead, with the return of the Blood vs. Water twist, but with a significant change to the formula: all-new castaways!

It's a shame we won't get to meet the two medically evacuated castaways, but health has to come before the game, lest we wind up with another Koh Lanta tragedy. Survivor: San Juan del Sur doesn't premiere until this fall, but you can listen to Probst's behind-the-scenes interview from the set on EW Morning Live with Jessica Shaw, and special host/Survivor extraordinaire Dalton Ross.
