'Survivor: San Juan del Sur' Full Cast + Returning Twist Revealed (VIDEO)

Earlier today, big news hit the web concerning Survivor: San Juan del Sur: namely that John Rocker, the Anderson twins (of Amazing Race fame), and one of the stars of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark would be joining the cast for the show's 29th, Blood vs. Water-themed season.

But what about the rest of the cast? And what about this twist that's been teased after the producers decided to ditch Redemption Island for San Juan del Sur following a pre-game medical evacuation? Well, we've got the details now via the fine folks at Entertainment Weekly, who interviewed Jeff Probst about the twist in question.

EXILE ISLAND is on its way back to Survivor!

The twist, which was introduced in Survivor: Panama and discontinued after Survivor: Tocantins, involved a losing contestant being chosen by a winning tribe in a challenge to be sent off to live in exile until the next challenge. However, the silver lining of Exile Island was that a clue to the hidden immunity idol (or the idol itself) would be there to find, meaning tribes had to be strategic about whom they sent there.

But Exile Island is getting even more soul-crushing this time around, as a contestant's loved one will be sending them there following a one-on-one duel.

"You’ve got to go up against your loved one and here are the stakes," says Probst. "Winner gets reward. Loser goes to Exile Island. Where it’s going to really suck. And it’s going to suck because you put ‘em there!"

Naturally, those disappointed by the loss of the strategic aspect of who gets sent to Exile Island will probably be glad to know that strategy is alive and well in terms of what an Exiled contestant does with the information they receive. "The good news is you at least have a shot at finding the immunity idol,: explains Probst. "And it’s up to you if you want to share that there was a clue or not. The complication is, that clue will lead you back to your beach where the idol is hidden, so you’re going to have to dig it up while everybody else is there. So nothing’s going to be easy this season, but I really do believe that the game play is ratcheting it up so we have to ratchet up with it, so we’re trying to complicate it as much as we can."
