'Supernatural': Mark Sheppard Upped to Series Regular for Season 10

Supernatural is looking ahead to an epic Season 10. Recurring star Mark Sheppard has been promoted to series regular, making him an even bigger part of the show going forward. The actor, who plays Crowley on the CW drama, is already a fairly major character. As King of Hell, his involvement in the transformation of Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) was critical to the Season 9 finale.

The news of Sheppard’s promotion comes just days after Misha Collins was promoted to series regular status for Season 10, following his recurring role as the angel Castiel in seasons four and eight, and his regular role in seasons five, six and nine.

As for Sheppard, the English thespian has appeared in just about every cult series worth watching over the past ten years, from Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who, to Firefly and The X-Files. He's starred on Supernatural for close to five years now, first appearing in Season 5, and remaining at a recurring capacity ever since. In short, the man has serious "comics convention cred".

While Supernatural was one of several CW series to earn an early renewal this year, the proposed spinoff of the series ultimately was not picked up. However, The CW is reportedly looking into other possible spinoffs for the series in Season 10, as the network sees value in the Supernatural brand. Given the show's popularity, they're not exactly wrong to, either.
