Superman Returns

Where have I been all this time? Brandon Routh is cute! He reminded me of anonymous gaycollegeparty.com guy on the float from New York Pride.
Yay we finally get to review Superman Returns...

Some good stuff: Brandon Routh, Kal Penn (Kumar looks great!) and young Clark Kent. It was also my first time to watch something on IMAX 3D (that I can remember anyway) and that was impressive. Unfortunately, as much as seeing Superman on screen again was a thrill for a fanboy like myself, I'm a bit perplexed by the story. So what happened again? The movie was as forgetable as, let's see, I forgot already.
Although it did help that I had no expectation whatsoever (I gladly accepted what was given me), it's just unfortunate that this is the story they chose to put into film. I think it could have been better since special effects are more accessible now. The ending of the film storywise was really a big duh. I think this is what happens when too many people are tying to write the script. When I saw that there were at least four people who wrote the script in the opening credits, I thought sheesh: that's about four revisions. Overall though, I was pleasantly surprised by Brandon Routh as Superman (even if a lot of critics weren't impressed), and seeing Superman flying through the air quite smoothly was enough reason for me to watch the movie. And yes, I have no problem with Superman wearing briefs outside of his tights, and that all he needs to hide his identity is a pair of thick rimmed glasses. LOL.
In the sequel, if there ever is one, they should make Lex Luthor wear his battle armor and kill a lot of people, because he is really evil. I don't understand why the movies insist to depict him as a caricature. Also, enough of the psycho-babble and give us some more action. Villain suggestions: Doomsday. Bizarro. Brainiac.
