Supergirl TV Series Is In the Works from 'Arrow' Co-Creator

It's looking like Supergirl is headed to the small screen.

A TV series about the superheroine is in the works from Warner Bros. Television, Arrow co-creator Greg Berlanti and writer/producer Ali Adler (who co-created the short-lived superhero drama No Ordinary Family with Berlanti). In addition, popular DC Comics writer Geoff Johns is expected to have a big role in the Supergirl project. Johns already has heavy involvement on two other DC Comics TV adaptations, as he's an executive producer on Arrow and its upcoming spinoff The Flash.

It's uncertain at the moment if the series will be a half-hour or an hourlong drama, but regardless of its length, Adler and Berlanti's take is expected to be an entirely new interpretation of the character and her origin story. Furthermore, it won't actually be called Supergirl either.

The concept is being taken out to networks at the moment, but I'd be surprised if this landed anywhere other than The CW, a network that is slowly becoming The "DC Comics and Vampires" Network. Not that there's anything wrong with that at all. Hell, The CW actually has way more variety in its lineup than most networks. This Supergirl show would be a damn good fit there, considering they already gave Smallville 10 seasons.
