'Supergirl' Gets Series Order from CBS
Supergirl is coming to CBS, of all places.
Just over a week after word came out that Arrow and The Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti would develop a Supergirl series alongside The New Normal's Ali Adler, CBS has made the series more than just a concept. The network has given the show a series commitment. Berlanti and Adler will write and executive-produce with Sarah Schechter (The Royal Tenenbaums).
The hourlong drama will tell the story of Kara Zor-El, one of the last survivors of Krypton, who decides to finally embrace her origin and follow in the footsteps of her superhero cousin, Superman. Of course, the show is a bit of a strange fit for CBS, which has made its mint on crime procedurals and courtroom dramas more than any action-oriented, superhero-fueled shows. Just about any other network, in fact, seemed more likely than CBS, as just about every other major network has some sort of comic book property on its schedule: The CW has the aforementioned Arrow and The Flash, as well as the upcoming iZombie; ABC has Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the upcoming Agent Carter; NBC has Constantine, and FOX has Gotham, which premieres this coming Monday.
Perhaps CBS simply wants a shot at getting into the superhero game before it's too late? Either way, I wonder what kind of fit this show could possibly be for the network.
